It’s Official: Lucas names all-time favourite SW Character...

By Kani Kantai, in Star Wars: Armada

Did he choose your favourite?

I don’t think you can argue that this one of the most iconic characters, and honestly no one in the ST has come close to matching this level of memorability.

And even worse, STILL not available in X-wing, Armada, Imperial Assault OR Legion.

I think Queen Amidala has him beat.

Nah, my favorite is that one guy who got ******* bodied by kylo ren.

Coolest character in the series.

Darth Jar Jar

I had suggested a commander (although an officer would honestly probably be better and would have the same effect for one ship, but probably only cost about 3-4 points)at one point. He was something like this: 19 points after a friendly ship deals a face down damage card from overlapping an enemy ship, it may roll 1 blue die. On a [hit] result deal 1 more face down damage card. On any other result, that ship suffers 1 face down damage card.

I think this well exemplifies the character.

Jar-Jar Binks....it was ment to be

(isn't he trolling us a bit?

Well tell that to the BBC - they think it’s todays news.

And surely the clone wars products are the perfect time to release Jar Jar.

The question is: commander, officer or boarding party?

I would most think officer...although space really isn’t his domain, maybe instead of an actual “Jar Jar Binks” Card he could be the art representation of something like “Clumsy Officer” or “Troublesome Ally” or “Distracting Presence” that carried a penalty but also a negative points cost. Or just used up an officer (+ another?) slot in exchange for a points deduction, like Chadrofan Refit in X-Wing?

Just some thoughts.

All crits in initial roll must be turns to hits? A negative affect that a few ships cannot handle and one that some can ignore b

Can someone demonstrate any part of Star Wars where Jar Jars "clumsyness" was not a benefit to the rebellion?

To go one further: who's a more effective military and political figure, Tarkin or Jar Jar?

Jar Jar:

-Genuinely altruistic and devoted

-Doesn't hold grudges

-Was instrumental in capturing Nute Gunray twice

-Helped rescue a senator and two Jedi

-Doesn't allow vessels he's traveling on to remain intact for capture

-Worked well with Jedi

Tarkin:

-Used connections to the Chancellor, self-interested

-Had petty rivalries and feuds

-Was captured

-Had to be rescued

-Lost his prize starship, which resulted in a long and costly search for it

-Didn't work well with Jedi

You mean, the Republic?

It was seemingly always a boon to the Soon-To-Be Empire.

When he stepped in poop.

When he angered the dried-frog jerky merchant.

When he electrocuted himself at the pod race.

Or did you mean the rebellion against the Republic, ie the separatists?

Because giving the Chancellor emergency powers definitely didn’t benefit their rebellion.

Ordnance slot. The best you can with him is fire him at your opponents.

“Move Jar Jar to an enemy ship you could attack this turn: Your ship cannot make any attacks this attacks. If you end the game with Jar Jar, reduce your score by 50.”

Believe it or not, in Hungary, Jar-Jar is a very much beloved character. Due clever dubbing and talented writers, he became clumsily lovable, child-like and has his very unique and appealing grammar. I never heard people laughing on a Star Wars movie, but even parents were laughing at Jar-Jar in the Phantom Menace. And people were sad(!!!!) that he was tuned down in AOC and basically left out of RotS.

Well then, hats off to the Hungarian translators. I’m glad you got the Jar Jar we deserved.

George Lucas is an abject failure whenever he doesn’t have a filter. When George said “I want Jar Jar to be broadly comedic”, there needed to be a person who understood audiences to implement that, not the man who says his greatest skill is editing and then spends 3+ decades destroying the editing that won his first block buster an Oscar.

I have never understood the hate for Jar-Jar. I loved him, as did everybody I know. The same goes for the prequel trilogy. And we saw it in English.

The first I ever heard of this dislike was on these forums. I was rather surprised.

He ends up, literally, as a Street Clown.

Falling on his butt for the amusement of Children.

I am basing my opinion of him on the movies.

That's fine.

A lot of people just don't know what happened to him, since, as you say, he faded out of the movies very quickly.

In Universe, he was pretty well unliked, used, then discarded...
