Snap Shot

By Kyle Ren, in X-Wing

Nuts, I thought I remember reading that 'spend' was not considered a modification. And I was really looking forward to Snap Shot + Optimized Prototype...

Well, guess it'll just be Seevor shenanigans for me then. And maybe seeing if I can get the Torani double tap once in a blue moon.

Edit: Do you know if Snap Shot would be considered a Special Attack? If it does, Krassis with aft snap shots will be a neat gimmick.

Krassis Trellix: Does Snap Shot count as a special attack? If so, Krassis is the only pilot with a bowtie Snap Shot

Unless they change it, the copy of Snap Shot that comes with the Nantex and Pubbie Y-Wing wouldn't, but they seem to have reworded it for Wave6 and the Q1 Packs, so it probably does.

Snap Shot text:

Talent

Attack 2, forward arc, range 2, ordnance icon

After an enemy ship performs a maneuver, you may perform this attack against it as a bonus attack.

 Your dice cannot be modified.

No Heroic. :(

Mmmh. Depends really on the Snap shot cost, but finally a well flown Mining Guild Tie swarm could be hilarious:

Bring the biggest rocks, take Seevor, Ahaav, Proach, Yushyn, Surveyor all with Snap + Torkil with Q'ra. (Or 2 Surveyors instead of Proach and Yushyn). Bit low on reds, but if they really bring the bullseyes with potential double tap and the area denial to bear.... If Snap shot really is ruled to forbid all dice mods, then it should be cheap, the MGTs are free to barrel roll as action, are cheap/expendable and have 3 greens.

Or if you for some reason want to "hop through loops" and really really reload something on Quinn (not only munitions but even talents, afterburner etc) and still fire, than Yushyn alongside Quinn would with snap shot offer some forward protection outside from him being a points-pinata just offering to take Quinn's disarm token.

Of course if it is more than 3 for Snap, than it is only a consideration on Seevor. Because 1-2 MGTs (maybe Ahaav if you expect larger bases or Huge ships) with Trick Shot (4pts) or naked are just better, instead of relying on maybe getting a double tap.

Also, a beefy opponent might just decide to take it and plow through an unmodified 2 die attack, esp if still shielded (expected damage around 0.8, about 1/5 chance to be critted).

Based off the rules reference, a special weapon is anything

  • with attack stats
  • that's not a primary weapon
  • that has the ATTACK keyword in the rules text.

Based on the 'newer' version we see, it has all three so yes, Krassis should be able to snap shot backwards. Obviously he won't be able to use his reroll, though.

Since rolling extra dice is not modification, Ahhav with Snap Shot is a very nasty option. It's not easy for a big base to avoid having at least a corner poking into range 2, and that's potentially 6 red dice per turn out of a TIE fighter....

The closest point (in arc) has to be at the relevant range to count as at that range, not any point. Range is measured to the closest point. Otherwise proton/plasma torpedoes would be a lot easier to fire...

I think the cost of snap shot needs to be pretty steep in order to keep it out of the hands of the dreaded 4 phantoms. Even just to keep it out of the hands of Whisper...

Typically, snap shot is most powerful on a low initiative ship, however these ships typically don't have a talent slot. A ship like the phantom can flip the script on how snap shot operates and give tons of opportunity to fire because the phantom can reposition during the system phase.
