New Epic

Should be fun to see which factions get which ships. I only have a GR-75 and a C-ROC so I'm hoping that the C-ROC will wind up in a faction I play in 2nd ed. GR-75 and CR90 will both probably go into the Resistance since they use very similar ships to the Rebels already. I could see the C-ROC going into the Separatists, since it feels like a merchant vessel geared up for a fight. The Gozanti might go the Republic since we see it in some prequel era stuff on Coruscant, and I think the Raider will go to the First Order because that's the only other place I think it would make sense aesthetically.

These are all baseless speculation of course, so what does everyone else think a 2nd faction on the old Huge Ships?

I would agree with all of your assessments about 2nd faction assignments, and I have been advocating multi-faction Huges for a long time because it will make Epic much more accessible.

Now, what I really want is the next new Huge!!

@heychadwick Any speculation on an official FFG AI similar to HotAC for Epic Battles?

I’d love to see HotAC go official with new missions or campaigns released regularly.

Speculation: no, won’t happen. They had their chance and passed on it, and another company went and ran with it. That ship has sailed.

Another company ran with it? Explain please.

Anything in particular you're hoping for?

My short list is mostly ideas for the Republic. A Naboo Royal Cruiser, or whatever that red and white ship that Obi-wan and Quigon used at the start of EP 1. There's also the Crucible from Clone Wars that would make an interesting Jedi themed Huge ship. A Hammer Head for the Rebels would be pretty cool as well, since there's potential for some interesting ramming mechanics there. I'd rather have the Nebulon-B, but it may be a bit too large. Maybe if the SSD for Armada sells well though...

Consular Class Cruiser. There was a refit of the class into a combat vessel designated as "Charger c-70". I like the Consular and Charger c-70's because they kind of serve as a bridging design between the different CEC designs (has elements of YTs, YVs, CRs, and DPs among others all in that one ship :) ).

How does that preclude any AI in X-Wing? Heck, Attack Wing came from X-Wing. Who says it can’t work the other way.

When the designer of said expansion talks to FFG and gets turned away, then gets it published for another designer... it looks really bad on FFG to go on their own. Yes, it’s that same Josh Derksen.

Now, it is indeed speculation on my part and FFG may do something. I just see probability as low.

That’s something I’ve yet to understand about FFG; they just don’t seem to want fan support in product development. Makes no sense when you have some wonderful fan products out there developed because people love the game and aren’t trying to just make a $$.

Thanks for dropping the name. I looked it up awhile back but totally spaced it. I'm not sure If I like it with or without weapons more, but either way it's a very pretty ship.

EDIT: Just remembered that 1st ed did hard-points for weapons on ships that weren't always armed. We could possibly get the unarmed diplomatic vessel and the combat ready version in one model, like how the C-ROC and Gozanti did things.

To be fair, it’s not that uncommon a situation. I know other game companies are the same, just to avoid messy court battles over control. There are bad ends to some of these paths.

And yes, I’m pretty darn sure if somebody was profiting on my idea I’d want a portion as well, something better than dehydrated bread in a bag.

I wouldn’t vilify FFG on this decision, though I do regard it as a missed opportunity. That said, sounds like Josh is doing very well and I wish him luck.

The Resistance tv show has the CR-90 being used by the Resistance. It's actually the same ship that fought at Scarif and other places. So, yeah, they will use the CR-90.

No idea on others...

I dunno....FFG seems to have gone and made a lot of AI's for their various games. I wouldn't deem it impossible to see them do something. Remember, rebellions are built on hope.

Hey, it’s possible

I really need to find the time to watch this show. Are there any places to stream it currently? I suppose it'll be on Disney's service, but that's not gonna be available for a bit. There's always less legal channels, but it would be nice to avoid that if possible...

I don't know of any legal place....

The show is OK. It's not as good as Rebels or later Clone Wars. Then again, it's not horrible.

Yeah, I bought season 1 on Amazon for $3 when it first came out. Don't know why it was that cheap. I don't think I'd be thrilled to pay $20 for it, though. I'd wait until it came out on Disney+.

All this awesome talk about Epic had me dig out my huge ships... and... it dawned on me... I have broken pegs on two of them >_> I gotta fix that before the conversion kits come out >_>

Well, there are four new factions, but five Huge ships to convert. Someone is going to double-up.

Gut feeling, Tantive (CR90) goes Republic and Rebel Transport (GR-75) goes Resistance. I say that because the Tantive itself was a Republic-era ship originally, and process of elimination leaves the Transport for Resistance. I haven't seen them use it directly, but it feels Resistancey to me (maybe because it has a similar overall shape as the Raddus).

The Imperial Assault Carrier (Gozanti-class cruiser) was used by the Separatists among others apparently, so I'll go with them. This might require more conversion, though, since you're not going to use docked TIE Fighters as the Separatists.

That just leaves the First Order for factions. The Imperial Raider is the obvious choice.

For ships, that just leaves the C-ROC Cruiser. Not sure about it. It sounds like, other than independent groups, it was only used by the Empire, and then usually in the Assault Carrier configuration which is a separate model. This could be the candidate for doubling-up on, but I don't know who.

Alternatively, the Imperial Assault Carrier could go to the First Order, and the Imperial Raider would go to the Resistance. The Resistance Raider would optimally need a different sculpt, but a Separatist Assault Carrier needs different docked ships. In this way, the Resistance might be the faction to double-up, and the C-ROC might default to the Separatists.

I will never have more than two players, myself included. Does epic not support two players anymore?

You will be fine. I watched the video again, and the guy announcing it uses the phrase, "up to eight players," and a little later he specifically says, "for two to eight players."

Yes, the guy on the Reddit thread said 3-8 players, but I strongly think that was a typo, and that it's really 2-8.

A Blue CR-90 is see a couple times in Resistance TV show, so I would be surprised if it didn't got to them. Imperial Raider to FO makes perfect sense.

I hope so. Otherwise 2 player sounds like an afterthought as opposed to something that will be balanced and playtested. Also, I don't want to miss out on any new campaign modes because I don't have enough players. (Not that that would be unfair or anything, I'd just like to be able to play!)

I guess my 1st choice would be the Consular Cruiser, because it is an obvious shoe in and definitively Republic. A close second is the Hammerhead.

I think the Hardcell is a good Sep choice, but in general, Seps are the one and only faction I don't have an attraction to. Mind you, the completionist in me is buying it all, but in smaller quantities for Seps.

The Naboo Cruiser, Mandalore Kromark, Action Iv, and Jabba's ship would all be nice, but unless an Epic release schedule become more than 1 per 18 months, they are distant seconds.

And I would be all over a Nebulon super-huge. There are numerous 3rd party examples that are awesome, so it can definitely be done.

One last ship would be the Corellian Gunship; given how generic it is, I think it would make a great All Faction release. Folks who like to repaint could have a lot of fun making theirs faction specific with new livery.

Ideas for options or ways that new sculpts could make the older huge ships better or more interesting? Maybe paint schemes? Not saying there is anything wrong with what is already there, just seeing if anyone has ideas they would like to see.
