What's more iconic than a single ISD slowly coming into view? Three of them coming at you! What's as iconic as that? A lone CR90 fleeing for dear life!
The Roach
So this idea originally started off as a joke list. A while back I observed some heavy bidding wars and thought, how about I just beat them all. And so it devolved into this:
Blockade runner(2nd player 6-5) (106/400)
=====
========================================
CR90 Corvette A (44 + 62)
+ General Madine (30)
+ Raymus Antilles (7)
+ Electronic Countermeasures (7)
+ Engine Techs (8)
+ H9 Turbolasers (8)
+ Jaina's Light (2)
Close-Range Intel Scan/ Targeting Beacons
Capture the VIP/ Jamming Barrier
Navigational Hazards
The idea is simply to have guaranteed 2nd player, then run rings around the opponent for 6 turns and win 6-5. If the opponent is new to this or unsuspecting, can nab points via the objective tokens.
Some of my usual opponents didn't want to play this list coz they thought it was a joke(and it is) so I didn't get to play this alot. Anyways, maybe I'm not so skilled in maneuvers but a CR90 can be boxed in by an astute opponent(for those few times I did play it). Another issue is that there is currently no red objective that supports a lone CR90 directly. It will still be able to throw off new opponents though.
I'm still looking to try this out with Cracken, Mothma and other defensive upgrades.
Enter Raddus.
The Raddus
Raddus opens up the lone CR90's role from an evasive scaredy cat to a cruise missile threatening to drop a nuke on whatever it approaches. Instead of having a mini msu to increase the Raddus drop points I decided to build on my previous idea and hide my entire list in one corvette. This also spares me points to suit up my corvette for staying alive. With the threat of the rest of the list popping out of hyperspace next to the CR90 it now makes my opponents eager to kill it and yet adopt a more wary playstyle as compared to facing my joke list above. I like to go at speed 1-2, then when it seems the enemy has adopted a general direction, jump to 4-5 with ET and start it's 'cockroach run’(as one opponent called it), nipping around ships to get a flank for the rest of the fleet.
This really makes up the first part of the game, and surprisingly, makes it really tense and fun, both for my opponent and I.
The Russians
Anyways, I should drop the list:
Raddus Nuke (399/400)
=====
========================================
MC75 Armored Cruiser (104 + 37)
+ Veteran Gunners (5)
+ Rapid Launch Bays (6)
+ Electronic Countermeasures (7)
+ Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
+ External Racks (3)
+ Profundity (7)
CR90 Corvette A (44 + 50)
+ Admiral Raddus (26)
+ Major Derlin (7)
+ Electronic Countermeasures (7)
+ Engine Techs (8)
+ Jaina's Light (2)
GR-75 Medium Transports (18 + 23)
+ Toryn Farr (7)
+ Bomber Command Center (8)
+ Rapid Launch Bays (6)
+ Bright Hope (2)
Hera Syndulla (28)
Nym (21)
Norra Wexley (17)
Shara Bey (17)
Tycho Celchu (16)
Gold Squadron (12)
HWK-290 (12)
Precision Strike
Jamming Barrier
Navigational Hazards
So I went with Raddus's nesting dolls. Again, wanting to pack everything inside Raddus I first considered the maximum number of squadrons I could drop via RLB. This is 5(MC75+flot). I then built the rest of the list around that. I initially had some non-rogue squads(keyan I think) and Flight Commander to increase my drop reach, but then realised the MC75 desperately wants to do commands other than squadron after the first turn that it dropped. So swapped out for Hera, and the squads can freely bomb while the MC75 can do it's own thing. Shara and Tycho are there to escort the CR90 and tangle up fighters to slow them from disturbing possible drop positions.
My opponent would most likely choose jamming barrier or give me 1st player. I just place my CR90 in the centre furthest back as possible, and slow roll to delay engagement. If my opponent tries to pounce I can easily weave around openings, else if he spreads out and tries to slowly tighten the noose I can drop in the rest late game and smash some stuff leaving little time for end-game retaliation.
Revisions
This has been my favorite rebel list yet as I have not yet lost with it(Though often it's pyrrhic victories). I realised how powerful a rogue RLB squad can be, dropping in so close to the enemy ships gives more time for bombing runs since they are at full health, so I'm considering going full rogues and dropping Tycho Shara.
I think the original lone CR90 list would be viable against SSD lists when it drops, since it would not be easy to box the Corvette in with fewer units and the lumbering speed of the SSD.
