"Two sizeable ships"... time for completely uninformed speculation!!!!!!!!

By Audio Weasel, in Star Wars: Armada

OK, so ideas on what these could be? I'd like to see a Starhawk. I know the Dornean Gunship has been floated around, but it's not what I would consider "sizeable" (neither is the DP20, which I was hoping for)

Do we even know what a Starhawk looks like? To my knowledge there isn't even any concept art.

As far as I know, it hasn't been shown anywhere. If the Starhawk were released for Armada, it would be the first time that ship class was seen (which would be quite a coup, and would be good for visibility of the game). From the description of it, I've always thought it would look a bit like the Asgard ships from SG1

Uninformed Speculation is my favorite kind of speculation!

I wonder what they could be? Imperial support vessel? Is that ‘sizeable’?

is there anything else from the new canon that would fit that description that isn’t a chimera type rebrand?

Only things we know are that it has a hatchet-shaped front and is made of recycled Star Destroyer parts.

Therefore, I'd guess they look like a scaled down Legends Eclipse.

Basically this:

eclipse-class-super-star-destroyer-star-wars-3d-model-3d-printable-stl

but smaller with New Republic markings.

The quote is actually "two decent sized ships"

My guess is starhawk and I don't have a clue for imps

Has armada ever produced a ship that hasn't been seen anywhere else? I don't think we will see a Starhawk.

Maybe allegence class or Belator?

Not yet.

Not like the imperial raider when it came out for xwing.

Could we see a counter to the SSD?

Viscount Class.

👍

Assault Frigate Mk I or MC40 Light Mon Calamari Cruiser for the Alliance.

Strike Class Modular Cruiser or Escort Carrier for the Empire.

All of these would be medium-sized.

Older ship designs such as the Dreadnought will probably be released for the two new factions.

However, "decent-sized" could mean small size also.

I'd very much love to see the Nebulon B2 for the Empire and an Action IV Medium Transport or a Bulk Freighter for the Alliance.

A 'huge' class ship that doesn't have the base size of the SSD.

A medium ship for the rebels AF Mark I as we have the 2 and the Imperial Support Vessel for the Empire.

That seems a little counter to “A huge ship has a base that extends over two large bases...” 🙂

It can still be two large bases in length... the gap can vary.

Maybe? But given that the precedence we currently have is to literally define base size in millimeters via the RRG (and even update and add that as required via errata for Large Ships), I figure that Huge Size will be "Set"... As its a "Size", not a Definition like "Flotilla"...

But. Y'know, I have eaten TIE fighters over being wrong before :)

Nah, like, you have way more experience here, and are 100% more well versed in the game than I am. But, as a marketing guy looking at the Huge catagory, I doubt we'll see anything SSD sized again. So I suspect the SSD will the biggest of the Huge ships.

I don't know, man.

The Malevolence was pretty big.

But I also admit that I'm of the mindset that the "SSD", model wise, is primarily intended to Represent the Prototypes and not the Full Executor (it does that as a compromise), which is why it is the COlour and Engine Glow it is... So we shouldn't take it as the full 19km Monstrosity, just a smaller, but still ISD-Dwarfing Prototype :)

The SSD has taken YEARS to make, and is still delayed right now (though how much of that is FFGs fault is questionable with the trade politics going on right now [just like the start of EP1...]), and is likely eating up a LOT of the Armada production these days. The production time likely didnt help the CW stuff that was announced (aside from news about it either being shut down by disney or FFG until CW for Legion was announced).

So, I would put the Huge Ships as variable sizes. Because that makes sense to me. I mean, why wouldnt they just make a HUGE base then if any future ones were going to be the same size?

Malevolence would be baller. I still wanna see 3d printed Destiny ships, because then you could print the Dreadnaught as a stand in for it.

The Business Killer:

Production Cost.

So much cheaper to utilise large bases than the force a clear injection mold that large.

Yeah, I never understood the need for the clear bases. I would prefer faction colored bases honestly.

Cream - Rebels

Gray - Empire

Maroon - Republic

Blue - CIS

The clear plastic is nice, but I spray mine black and paint the sides next to the cardboard anyway.
