No more talismans to complete quest

By joseph0000, in Talisman Rules Questions

This happens to me the last Saturday. I choose to take the quest at the warlock cave, however, when I can complete the quest, no more talismans were available. My friends told me "you cannot complete the quest!", so if I cannot complete the quest, even if I found the talisman, it is impossible to enter at the crown of command isn't? The quest should be finished to allow me reach the crown, no matter if the character found the talisman somewhere else, but it cannot be complete because no more talismans are available.

How do you solve this situation? Can the player complete the quest if there is not talisman available?

You can complete the quest, you just don't get a Talisman for doing it. It's like any resource in the game. If something says gain a gold (for example) and there's none available to take, you simply don't take any.

Remember you have to complete the quest as soon as you can, not when you choose to. So if it's a lose 2 lives quest, and you have 3, you immediately complete the quest.

I'm not sure what expansions you're playing with, but there are quite a few Talismans available. I think it's about 8 with all three expansions. But that aside if you don't have a Talisman then no, you can't enter the Crown via the Valley space. You'll have to attack a player to steal one of their Talismans!

Having a quest only stops you from opening the Portal of Power. You can still enter the Inner Region via other means with a quest in hand.

None of the expansions to date have added Talismans to the Talisman "deck" (of 4 Talismans). They add Talismans to the Adventure and Dungeon decks (as well as Treasure).

Yup, that's what I meant. The 8 was a total availability figure.

Stealing the Talismans from other characters is more fun! Thanks!

To prevent "munchkining" (If I have the term right), we play that if you have 2 Talismans, and you decide to Alchemize (or whatever), one of them, you MUST discard the Generic Talisman, making it available to all. Ditto re: Purchase Deck Mules (say, you have to kill a Mule follower) go back first, before adventure deck Mules, purchase deck swords before regular.

It's one of the few near-unanimous House Rules we were able to make. And, due to group size, and card distribution, we have a bag of 40+ pennies for gold. We don't like the idea of game components limit the actual adventure part of the game.

All the above is home rules, of course.

If you run low on Talismans, and you have the Dungeon board, buff up until you can overkill the LOD, beat him by 8 and you'll go straight to COC. If Talismans are not easy to come by, then this is a course that is taken in our games.

Unfortunately by official rules you can't use talismans from the adventure deck to divvy out as rewards for quests, only the the four Talisman deck Talismans can be used for that purpose. So once those four are in someone's possession, that's it. Fortunately, like the purchase and Stables decks, that deck is replenished should someone discard those cards, rather than them being removed from the game
