Fleeing + Pattern Analyzer

By Ryfterek, in X-Wing Rules Questions

It's interesting that the RR says fleeing triggers AFTER you execute a maneuver yet in both the boost and barrel roll sections it says you fail the action if it "would cause it to be outside the play area (and therefore would cause that ship to flee)". Why would performing a boost or barrel roll in this situation necessarily cause you to flee if fleeing is only checked after you execute a maneuver? It seems like there's some inconsistency within the RR on when fleeing is triggered. It seems like fleeing should be checked after a ship moves not after a ship executes a maneuver.

We should get t-shirts with this on it.

It should be as simple as this. At any time your ship is placed down at the other end of a maneuver template, if any part of your ship’s base is off the playing area, you have fleed the play area. The end, no actions/shenanigans.

🤔

Maybe it should be that simple, but that's not what the rules say.

I think it's clearly RAW acceptable to come off entirely and then barrel roll or boost back in using PA when stressed.

Why is this not RAI? Are people annoyed because they lost because of this? Does it feel too loop-holey?

It's an upgrade being used properly to do something amazing. The people who worked this out should be celebrated, it opens up some interesting manuveuring possibilities and raises the value of PA.

A ship has fled ONLY once maneuver is complete, PA kicks in before that, end of discussion, move along these aren't the droids your looking for.

It's because it feels loopholey. Landing a move with your bade off the board has always been death unless there's a specific printed exception on the card which PA doesn't have.

ya, at the moment it's toally fine. i just don't believe it's good for the game system and future design, since it allows play outside of the play area.

“Celebrated”? Nah 👎🏼

They should be celebrated, yes, but because they've found a loophole that we can now direct to FFG so they can patch, not because this is something that will actually be allowed.

Why are you so sure it will not be allowed?

Nearly everyone here thought double bomb would not be allowed, but it ended up being allowed. So don't be so sure you know intent...
