Star Wars IX Teaser... Don't screw this up Disney.

By FuriousGreg, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

IT’S THE SENATE!

I felt nothing for the trailer until that laugh. Suddenly I'm actually more than a bit hyped.

You guys, it's our fault!

Palpatine was in our own hearts...the whole time.

Eh, I don't particularly care about Palpatine, or bringing back old villains in general. Hopefully that's just some misleading metaphorical marketing nonsense.

Did the hover TIE not have weapons? Why not shoot Rey instead of trying to run her down?

The title is deeply awful. "Rise of" has been used in so many big blockbuster titles in recent years that it reminds me of focus group middle-of-the-road storytelling.

That's the first Star Wars trailer I'm not really feelin'.

As much as I dislike the title, it's not as if Star Wars doesn't have a history of using really basic, almost corny titles. "Revenge of..." "Attack of..." "...Strikes Back."

It seems to be the thing these days to put things in the trailer you might not see in the film. Or, it gets edited out. I think the Emperor's laugh is just something Star Warsy to put in there and not something actually in the movie as a character. But maybe they will pull the whole "clone" thing? Snoke just a deformed clone version of him? or some kind of The -Emperor-Didn't-Die retcon. :(

The same reason Solo had a train heist when flying stuff in a spaceship is how things get done. Someone had a cool idea for a scene. :(

Not too many I can think of, but it does make you imagine what it could mean. Luke pulling a Jesus Christ? Or, did he just 'teleport' away instead of pulling a Yoda? Someone in the bloodline being a Skywalker? Secret Luke marriage & offspring? Did Kylo Ren actually have Solo's last name in the movie? Could he of had Leia's new adopted last name...some kind of semantic twist? Given that they trashed the Skywalker name as someone who abandoned his friends and then disappeared, maybe it's some kind of redemptive story?

I think I might have fallen for the Emperor's laugh in that it got the wheels turning. On the downside, ANOTHER desert planet (perhaps) and ANOTHER foggy-misty-mountain city/fort place. Ugh... Seems like maybe the Lando clip would make a good ending (shooting off into hyperspace on another adventure).

Wrong skywalker.

"Nobody is ever really gone"

They find the wreckage of a deathstar dish.

...The Ewok Genocide theory is true, and they're going back to Endor to face the ghost of Anakin Skywalker, to FINALLY bring balance to the force, as prophesized.

No context to the scene, so....

...do we know it was even trying to attack her? We didn’t see her attack it. We saw her leap towards it. She could be “surfing” it.

Oh I *love* the pulpy SW titles! They are awesome in their Flash Gordon-ness. I just don't think this one makes the cut. It sounds like the prequel videogame to a soulless blockbuster movie.

I mean maybe the pilot had some other reason to aim right at the only person on a featureless plain... :P

Indeed they could...if this was a pre-planned maneuver. Double 😝

A pre-planned maneuver to ignite her lightsaber for... no reason? Ehhhhhh.

C’mon...it’s Abrams. And Star Wars. When has either needed a logical reason to include a cool image like the hero “surfing” towards (whatever) on top of an enemy ship? Triple 😝

Idk, I never really thought about how much did I care about epIX until today. Apparently, I lost a lot of interest after epVIII.

And a return of "The Senate" makes epVI even more irrelevant.

Good to see Lando, but I would love to see Chewie on command and Lando as co-pilot. Let's subvert the expectations and give the Wookiee the falcon.

Yeah, I still remember Anakin, Obi-wan, and Palpatine surfing that cruiser down to Coruscant in Episode 3.

Wow, it took a second viewing for me to even realize that curved thing is a bit of Death Star. I guess I shouldn't be surprised Abrams put it into yet another SW movie, but seriously, come on.

Yeah, but it’s just wreckage, not another super weapon.

I dare not hope.

People who are down on the "goofy titles" like Attack of the Clones or Phantom Menace completely miss the point. Those are exactly the types of titles that the old Republic Serials used - titles like Mystery of the Rocketmen, Descending Doom, and The Purple Death. And if you divorce yourself from 30 years of nostalgia, The Empire Strikes Back is just as cheesy as The Phantom Creeps.

I'm not feeling the vibe here.

Compare this to the teaser for E7...whatever flaws the final movie might have had, that teaser was one of the best ever done. This one leaves me cold, and the final bit about "no one ever dies" and the Palpatine laugh just make me tired, like a guarantee that Star Wars will be turned into the same endless slog as the MCU. And I guess "skimming" is a sequel-trilogy theme now: E7 had lake skimming, E8 had salt skimming, and now E9 has sand skimming...which I hate because it's rough and course, and gets everywhere...

Well, at least there's the next season of TCW on the way.

The movie can't make up for Episode VIII's failures on every level and complete derailment of the Saga, still I hope things get better, at least it's not in the hands of Rian the Johnson.

To paraphrase Clint Barton, “You and I remember Episode VIII very differently.”

I'm sad that I remember it at all. I blame Netflix for making the available to me for such a low opportunity cost. Hopefully this one won't make it to Netflix and I'll have another layer of protection in my times of boredom.

Dude, Luke was never going to pick up those power converters.

Well, that already happened 20 years ago with three (or four, counting Clone Wars) of the worst big-budget movies ever made.

But, they're movies, and Star Wars isn't George Lucas' captive muse anymore, so you can enjoy it your way and I can enjoy a pretty decent cover-band saga from Disney.
