Oh, I didn't understand what the purpose of that last screenshot was but now I get it. All those ISDs have a very strange carved out part on the ventral side. It looks like there is some strange big cannon (super weapon) installed.

Huh. Now that IS interesting. And no hangar bay at all?

From the top of the ships, they looked a heck of a lot more like an ISD-I than an ISD-II (such as the model we currently have in-game), but that bottom shot is...quite a stark difference!

(And of course the red trim on the edges is "new", too. Still reminds me a bit of Clone Wars-era paint jobs, but less extreme. Wonder if these are some kind of Katana-fleet-redux...)

ANYWAY, the important thing to take away from these is that this is definitely a very different model ISD than what we have currently in the game. NEW ARMADA SKU!

I also realised that after I already made the circles and uploaded the image so I thought lets just post it anyway 😉

We potentially have a third star destroyer for Armada if it turns out that fleet is Imperial.

The only problem is that if the design differences are limited to the ventral cannon on the belly, the ship model would look identical on the table.

We might just get a "Rise of Skywalker" Upgrade pack with a new ship card and upgrades. The fact that a new ship has a special narrow firing arc for a forward large weapon, AND that the new ISDs have a fixed forward large weapon, is too much of a coincidence for me. My bet is a new ISD variant with a narrow forward arc and different upgrades.

From this scene ?

Red marking are my fleet, doggone it. That's Blood Squadron there. 😂

I just thought of something utterly insane. What if those Imperial Star Destroyers aren't allied with the First Order? After the war the Empire split into two groups. The hardcore extremists went to the Unknown regions and founded the First Order while the rest stayed in the territory the treaty granted them. What if that Star Destroyer fleet belongs to the latter group? I imagine the 1st GCW veterans among that group would view the First Order as a group of young punks trying to claim their legacy and might be angry enough to fight. For that matter the First Order probably looks down on them because they weren't among the group that founded the First Order.

Based on the novelization of TLJ, I think it could be possible. I know the Imperial Remnant within the First Order think they're inexperienced punks led by and overzealous idiot.

Wait, there is a different perspective from what you suggest? I always thought that theses ISDs belong to some Palpatine loyal faction that is distinctly different from the First Order. And now they come in unter Palpatine and fight the FO as well as the Resistance.

To no one in particular...

Your over-speculation is your weakness.

Once you start down the path of developing your own story, forever will it dominate your view of the ACTUAL story.

And if you follow that path anyway, don't be too proud of the overwrought terror you've constructed. The power to bring in your own beloved lore is insignificant...next to the power of the Mouse.

But in seriousness, can't we just accept the teaser trailers as a teaser and wait for the movie to tell the story rather than trying to knit together your own.

Nah, the top of the ships does look like an ISD-I ...it seems to have the larger guns of the ISD-I vs the -II, and definitely the central communications mast between the two sensor spheres is MUCH larger (a hallmark of the ISD-I, which the 'X' oriented vertically and standing taller than the spheres, vs the ISD-II having a smaller 'X' that lays horizontal, as seen on our models).

Given how much the top looks like an ISD-I, I'd assume it has the engine baffles, as well (note the difference in the three main engines between the ISD and VSD in our game - the ISD-I has the same details on its engines, which the ISD-II lacked).

And of course, as noted, these guys seem to have some kind of red stripe around the edges of their hull - that's a clear visual distinction, anyway, besides the obvious model differences.

Look at all those feral Snub Fighters ready to hyperspace jump kamikaze into that Armada of peacekeeping Star Destroyers.

Traitors have no honour.

I have a theory regarding the new trailer that I posted to the X-wing and Legion forum's, but wanted to get your opinions as well. I'm gonna just copy/paste it for you all to check out.

So did anyone get the vibe that maybe that fleet of ISD's are all inert and were left out in space similar to the way that the Katana fleet was back in the original Thrawn trilogy? I don't think them being there is an accident, but rather something Palp left behind on the assumption that the Empire may fall and need to be rebuilt. Basically he left a cache of ships floating in space for when that day came. I also kinda got the feeling that Finn along with others found this dormant fleet, based on that shot of him and the new girl aboard some ship. That shot gives you a look out the window into space and it looks pretty similar to the background of the ISD shot. Those ISD's also aren't lit up which could be indicating that they are inactive.

I bring this up because of that shot of 3PO with red eyes. My little pet theory is that 3PO will be with Finn when they find the ISD's and that with nowhere near enough people to crew the things, 3PO will attempt to take control of the fleet from a command ship or something like that. The red is just to show that he's interfacing with the old Imperial ships. It would be a pretty good way to give the Resistance a fighting chance if they suddenly came into ownership of an entire Imperial fleet. This is all based on roughly 10 seconds of footage so feel free to tear this theory to bits, but it sounds pretty probable to me.

So what do you all think of it? I haven't read any of the spoilers that are out there yet, so not sure how this jives with that, and like I said it's based on next to nothing but some guesses and 3 shots from the trailer. Thanks for reading!

I thought the real reason for 3P0's red eyes was obvious. He at last reveals his true nature Darth Protocolis.

Edit: I'm joking I think.
