I think it’s important to note that aside from Rogue One, and maybe Revenge of the Sith, there hasn’t been a Star Wars film released after The Empire Strikes Back that hasn’t been divisive.

Still true. Everyone, as they say, is a critic. 🙂

I expect a movie like The Force Awakens that simply doesn’t borrow major plot elements from prior films such as Starkiller Base. A safe, fan pleaser that makes some bold moves but ultimately is predictable. If the journey is enjoyable I guess I don’t mind.
I rewatched Return of the Jedi and was very disappointed so if TROS can at least top that i’ll be incredibly happy.
I just watched it. I went in with the same worry about how backwards-looking the previous two films were, and their need to recreate specific bits from the original trilogy (Death Star attack, battle of Hoth). This one doesn’t do that, I’m happy to say.

That's not fair; some of us are happy to argue that Rogue One wasn't a great film, and doesn't deserve nearly as much love as it gets. Also I'm pretty sure some people complained about Empire.
The movie was ok. My biggest complaint was that the respective fleets looked like a lazy copy/paste CGI mess with silly plot points dictating the course of the battle. RotJ it was not. Same complaint I had with the RotS battle.

That way we don’t have any unfortunate mishaps.

Mmm. I was 6 when my Grandfather took me to see Star Wars opening weekend May 1977.
I have a simple mantra wherein I really don’t listen to ‘Star Wars critics’ who can’t make that claim.

Side story, a YouTube Blogger/‘Critic’ less than half my age and half a foot taller was audibly spewing out BIG Spoilers as we were waiting for the press screening to start.
He definitely ruined some movie details for all those within earshot, I stood up, turned around, made direct eye contact and said “hey man” and then pretty much everyone within several rows yelled at him before he or I could say another word. What an ...

Rouge One is a very lucky movie in that it is flawed in a lot of areas, but the way the movie plays out the flaws are countered hard. For example:
Most of the cast is weak, but cassian/ K2SO and krennic are great.
First half of the movie is weak, but last 20 mins is peak Star Wars.
Everybody dies. Ballsy move
After waiting for 6 months finally I get to read this post, there were so many assumptions spot on and so many way off,
anyway, I just watched the movie, I am not going to make comments about the movie but its impact on Armada.
I was hoping it would boost a new interest to space battles, especially for ship to ship action ( as Rogune One did). Unfortunately that is not the case, although ( spoilers coming up) ships and fleets have an important presence in the plot, their actions are not inspiring ( especially ship to ship battles were too distant).
So will this movie good for the movie? I don't think it will bring a new giant wave of new players but at least I hope there will some renewed interest for the game because of the movie.
Anyway, if you haven't see the movie yet, go, enjoy

Funny enough the movie I would say has the little to give Armada. They have little to no ship v ship combat if at all. At best ships fans can pause the scene and see what ships are now canon.
For Legion the movie most likely gave us the rest of FO and Resistance factions. Have to watch it again, but Legion got the most out of this movie.
Xwing also got some from the movie. Two Resistance ships and a crap ton of pilots for the other ships. First Order got three ships as well.

X-Wing will get an old Wedge, I was really hoping he would become an Admiral in this movie.

As a Gunner......... Which will be scary if he gets the same ability. He really should have been a commander or in a Xwing. Just annoyed that they had no fleet action, but had a massive fleet.
I guess when they do Resistance in Armada they will at least have an easy time just picking any ship out to fill all the roles.
I'm seeing the movie tomorrow. With all the gratuitous ISD-Is in the previews, I'm still really hoping to see more First Order Star destroyers and space vehicles. They're supposed to be the big bad of the sequel trilogy, why are we seeing old ISD-Is?
Glad this trilogy is over. It was terrible.
Some of the bits and bobs like TIE Silencers and First Order troopers, etc. are neat, but as a cohesive story, it's been pure garbage for the past two movies. It started out slightly promising with TFA, but it was all an avalanche of suck from there.
For me, Star Wars is 4-6 + Rogue One + Solo (barely) + The Mandalorian.
I consider the prequels & Clone Wars backstory which I loved in parts and hated in others, that I never have to watch again in my life, thankfully.
7-9 are garbage I jettisoned before jumping to hyperspace.

And then everyone clapped; and the name of that Critic? Albert Einstein.
My spoiler-free hot take: JJ Abrams is one bad day from being Michael Bay.
I went into this movie not expecting much, and got less than that.
I guess if you're one of those Reddit Last Jedi haters, this will be everything that you wanted instead. It was constructed to be that way. Painfully so.

Nah man, not even we like it. Yeah its supposed to be a course correction from the last Jedi, but is handled so ham-fistedly that it doesn't make anything better. If anything it ends this trilogy on a huge wet fart.

But it was made for you! Doing nearly everything it could to ignore or subvert where we left off in TLJ! If not your audience or mine (those who like TLJ and the questions it asked) then... for whom was this $300 million budget movie made for?
I agree with you, though. In spite of a lot of people saying they like it, I think in the long run, it's going to be remembered as a dismal concession to the perceived desires of the fandom.
