She fails so hard, she breaks the lightsaber that was supposed to represent the hope of the Jedi returning to the galaxy.

The lightsaber that magically returns in this move.

The thing that keeps coming up as a sore point for me is that JJ doesn't seem to understand the concepts of time or distance.
We get the 16 hour ticking clock that gets references later as being at 8 hours and then never mentioned again.
We get heroes on planet, cut to FO saying "hereoes have been seen on planet, we need to go there" to heroes running into FO on planet with no sense of time changing to Kylo's flagship showing up at the planet. All of this appears to be 5 minutes to an hour of actual story (not film) time.

Even worse is the final battle. Lando and Poe leave at the same time to go to Exogol and the Core worlds respectively. We're supposed to believe that it took 15 minutes for Lando to go to the Core, round up a gajillion allies (who until this point haven't been willing to get involved) and get to Exogol to meet up with the resistance forces who are already in the battle.

Or that if everyone and everything are outliers, then no one and nothing is.

TLJ is officially my favorite prequel. I liked this one better than TFA but I cannot take my kids to it cause it’s too violent.

First, I am assuming you meant sequel. Also I am, quite honestly, surprised and impressed to hear that.

I put that down to a reoccurring theme in the movie. That it feels rushed. The adhd editing short cuts, dialogue and scenes that flow too fast, The throw away revelation explanations that take half a scene to deliver but should be mind blowing (see all the rey used lightsaber and several leia references).

Really feels like they should have taken 1/2 -1 hr extra in screen time and slowed a lot of those sequences better.

Yeah sequel. I thought TLJ was way better than TFA but I never meet anyone who agrees.

I feel they are the same, but mainly due to the feels TFA give me as it was the first Star Wars movie I took my son to see in theatres.

****, the whole sequel trilogy has the feels, because my son watched in wide-eyed enjoyment of them. That is what makes the sequels better in my opinion.. not that I enjoy them, but my son watched them with the same awe that I watched the originals.

TLJ is my favorite Star Wars film, and Rise of Skywalker only made me love and appreciate it more.

You're not alone, Tauntaun Scout!

The movie being longer wouldn't help it make any sense. The biggest issues it has aren't things from TLJ that needed to be papered over. Someone somewhere else said it best...

This is 100% JJ. Even Attack of the Clones isn't this stupid and that movie is d-u-m dumb.

I think the movie being longer can help with the pacing a bit. It's most notable in the opening, but a lot of the cuts and transitions are incredibly jumpy and often feel like they're timed to the exact instant a syllable ends rather than letting the line reach our ears. I feel like there's quite a bit of runtime that would be added just by adding a second or two to most of the existing cuts. I also feel like a lot got trimmed out of the space battle at the end, as we really never got any of the clever flight choreography that remains the visual highlight of TFA.

I will say when they first announced plans to have JJ start the trilogy but hand it off to someone else I was pretty thrilled. I think he's an immensely talented filmmaker with a fantastic sense of timing and build up and an incredible sense of dynamic camera movement in 3D space. I just don't care for where his stories go or the answers to his mystery boxes. This movie is pretty much the worst case of a Christmas morning's worth JJ mystery boxes. That said, its still a bit better than good on the whole, on the back of good camerawork, a solid cast, and a lot of raw Star Wars charm throughout.

How many gamers have noticed that with this last movie, the Star Wars universe emperor has basically become the Warhammer 40,000 universe emperor? :)

I mean, he's 100% more alive than the 40k emperor is, but yes.

It already felt so long though. I think there was an easy 30 minutes to re-assign in this movie. Like the micro-hypering or whatever they called it. Just have them jump to lightspeed and avoid the fighters. No need for it to be a running dogfight. There were a lot of things like that which could have been resolved much more quickly and simply to allow for breathing room in the story.

I have my personnal issues with Episode 9, but I personally liked that hyperspace chase. I thought it was a good follow up to the fact that the First Order can track other ships through lightspeed.

Watching persons debate in this thread has been mildly entertaining while stuck here at work. But let me the congratulate the two putzes who managed to put massive spoilers in their rants 1 day after the movie debut without the decency of spoiler warnings.

If there was an ignore setting for this forum, I’d use it on you two selfish twits. I saw the movie before those posts luckily - you just simply proved your lack of consideration of others makes your opinions entirely worthless to me.

Maybe, as for the length I suggested it would certainly put it up there with middle earth films long, but it wouldn't be record breaking either

I asked on this forum if spoilers were open and was told they were. Apologies if I’m one of the putzes you referred to... but I checked.

My vague ranking puts this one about the same level as Revenge of the Sith, which puts the worst of the new trilogy on par with the best of the prequels.

I feel like if they got rid of the whole "spy in the FO" storyline, the movie would have been better. That gets rid of the whole beginning ice planet and hyperspace skipping sequence, and removes otherwise pointless moments on the star destroyer. That help focus the story, and gives you a bunch of time to flesh out some of the other sequences and stop with the absolutely horrid pacing.

****, we need to have Merry in here instead of Pippin, since he was actually in the film. I aughed during the movie when he showed up because my first thought was that the Resistance is now recruiting Hobbits.
