Critical X turns X number of surges into Crits. At least, that's the last I had heard/read. Should happen before cover, etc are applied.

It’s on the TB21 targeting rifle that was spoiled with the Dewbacks. It converts X number of surges to crits.

Ok, so the difference between critical and impact is that impact only works against targets with the keyword armor?

Well that, and Impact only converts hits to crits, not surges.

And because Impact converts hits, it happens after Dodge/cover.

Correction: Critical X converts X hits into crits, but converts these at the same time as surges that is before dodge/cover

edit: this is from the dewback article, the clone wars article seems to be different

That’s not correct. If you look at the T21B targeting rifle, it says convert 1 surge to a crit. You convert surges before dodge and cover is applied.

Have a listen to the latest Fifth Trooper/Notorious Scoundrels podcast. Alex and Luke were interviewed, and they confirmed it converts surges to crits. (Among other things that are probably more interesting to hear 😃 )

Apparently the Dewback is some kinda of older misprint (possibly). It may have been that at some time, hence the odd wording, but in an interview it was confirm to simply be a surge to crit change. My guess it got nerfed during the clone wars testing since it is clearly a surge to hit in that preview article.
