Shore and Death.

Ah, you're right. Every time I see "Death Trooper", I read it as "Dark Trooper" and think it's referencing the first Dark Forces game.

Also, what are Shore Troopers from? I figured that was a made-up name thrown in there. O_o

Rogue One. They're the white armored trooper on Scariff.

Huh. I don't remember seeing them in any of my viewings.

Then again, I don't recall seeing Death Troopers either, so I guess I just wasn't paying that close attention.

...if they HAVE to bring in a new superlaser weapon for this movie I want this one. Would be a change of pace of the previous balls of doom.

Death Troopers were the black armored ones escorting Krennic when he took Jyn's father and were the ones Baze Malbus was fighting on Scariff when he died.

No, it is going to be First Order's Übercarrier.

It's coming out of nowhere, nobody explains, why everyone missed its construction, where the resources came from, and wherefrom all the educated people to operate it. The thingy sticking out on top at 45 degrees is the launcher, it launches colour-inverted 60km Mega Class Star Dreadnoughts.

Cause, keeping the theme of "oh the last one got destroyed, lets try the same thing again, just bigger, even bigger, hilariously bigger..."

To be fair, in cannon they're mostly just referred to as Stormtroopers regardless of armor. It might be like the NATO reporting callsigns for Russian aircraft i.e. the Russians didn't refer to the Mig-29 as the Fulcrum, the Su-27 as the Flanker or the Mig-15 as the....actually let's not talk about the Mig-15's NATO reporting callsign...

What? You have something against wind instruments?

Sooooo... have we found out what that stuff behind the curtain is yet?

Kirtan Loor in a surprise cameo.

Considering R1 overwrites the first 15 minutes of Dark Forces, that's probably intentional.

It makes me sad, as I liked Dark Forces, that Kyle and Jan are no longer part of that story. But I liked the story they told, and so these nods to the old cannon are good enough for me.

Far better than the ‘everything we know about Han Solo’s backstory happened in this one week stretch’. Solo was ok, but it would have been better if some of those ideas would have had room to breathe.

No let’s talk about it, let’s not censor history here. Mig-15s NATO reporting reference was Fagot, in reference to the old French language way to say “bundle of sticks for fuel”. In modern English we’d call it “firewood” or “gas log “. (Because the MiG-15 was basically a jet engine with some wings and fuel strapped to it).

they were not calling the jet itself the derogatory term we know in common lingo today.

That was a joke, but thanks for explaining the **** out of it.

If anything its modern common use is very telling of the scumbags that first applied the term to gays and those that ran with it... 😠

Nah, the whole Scarif thing was just a diversion so that Kyle could sneak into the first level and steal the REAL plans.

So, has anyone gone back and checked out the curtain yet?

Rogue One is clearly inspired by Dark Forces.

* Jyn Erso is an extremely similar name to Jan Ors (it's almost an anagram).

* Cassian Andor wears outfits that highly resemble Kyle's Dark Forces design (when he has his jacket) and his Jedi Knight design (at the end of the movie), and isn't bad casting physically either.

* Death Troopers and Dark Troopers are similar in name and appearance, and their concepts aren't entirely dissimilar (especially if you consider the Phase Zero dark troopers from Battlefront).

* Even the data archive where they retrieve the plans resembles the puzzle at the end of... Level 4 I believe.

* The first screenwriter was an ex-editor-in-chief for PC Gamer, giving an opportunity and a motive. 😜

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the story began as a straight-up adaptation before the names got changed in later drafts. It might explain a few smaller things, as well, like how the Death Troopers don't really have a role in the final draft of the film (managing to hit a main character doesn't mean much considering the resolution ;P).
