Need some help for my FO list

Hey guys,

I'm trying to make a competitive list for tournaments.

I was thinking about something like this :

Kylo Ren with hate

Quickdraw

Malarus

Scorch

What do you think?

Quickdraw without SF Gunner seems anemic.

FO notes:

Kylo - Probably should be run with Hate. Some use Heightened Perception w Torps. I'm not a fan of the latter.

QD - Needs Gunner & likely Fanatical. Everything else is gravy--an argument can be made for FCS if you have a coordinate platform. Yes, Fanatical is amazing on QD, fite me.

Malarus - Elusive. Elusive. Elusive. You can run Malarus right down a Rebel beef's throat and come out the other side totally fine.

Scorch - Fanatical.

Longshot - Trick Shot or Fanatical.

Backdraft - Just Fanatical and you're golden. Point your arc backward.

Generic SFs - Surprisingly good with the Gunner. Some lists bulk up with Homing or Conc Missiles out the rear.

Tavson - Amazing. Use as an anvil. LOVE Phasma crew (want to watch a Quad Phantoms list have problems? Punch them in the face with Phasma). I keep him light because he's designed to get shot and probably eventually die. Biohexacrypt is lovelyyyyy.

Blackout, Midnight, Thannison, Muse are all... ok. I'm not a big fan of any of them, but if you find a way to be consistently successful with them, good for you!

There are no tricksies with the FO. Fly well and you'll do well... fly poorly and it's going to be ugly. That's about it. Good luck!

I think "Longshot" is the weak point; 3 attack dice at range 3 is nice but since it's a primary weapon, you don't actually get enormous benefit out of it since most of the time you get the bonus dice, your opponent is getting at least as many defence dice, and your initiative isn't really high enough to give much concern about. At 33 points compared to just 28 for a basic TIE/fo, I'm concerned you don't actually get much mileage out of your 5 point investment.

The other possible pilots are:

  • Omega Squadron Ace with a cheap talent
    • Fanatical is probably not worth it since your opponent is unlikely to prioritize killing a basic TIE/fo in favour of "Backdraft" or Kylo, or if they do they'll probably terminate it in one engagement phase.
    • Crack Shot or Predator might give it a bit more punch without breaking the bank, but unlike "Longshot" they apply on the range 1 shots you want to be taking with a primary 2 TIE fighter.
  • "Muse"
    • Best used with Squad Leader, which is another 6 points, or pattern analyser, 5 points. Both are out of budget.
    • If you were taking "Scorch", the ability to burn off stress easily might be useful, even though their respective pilot abilities don't synchronise terribly well. But you aren't anyway.
  • Lieutenant Rivas
    • Free target locks whenever a nearby hostile ship becomes stressed, strained, locked, jammed, ionized, or tractored.
    • That's awesome action economy for a 2 point pilot ability. But since you don't have any means to inflict those tokens on an enemy ship, of comparatively limited use.
  • "Null"
    • Initiative 7 is good - hence list 2 - but it's only really great if you can achieve something with that initiative. Afterburners is good to give him a bit of ability to boost, but ultimately, I think he's a better call in an aces list than "Longshot", if only because it means no-one has to deploy before initiative 5.
  • TN-3465
    • A pilot I don't see used enough and frankly one of the best; the ability to auto-modify any result to a Icon damage crit would be good in any squad, but it's especially tasty in a squad with Kylo Ren, as it becomes very easy to trigger I'll Show You The Dark Side. With the rest of your squad all equal at I5, theoretically you can drop 3 criticals on the poor girl, even if she started the initiative step on only 1 health, too.

Still can't choose between those 2 :p

List 2 is better, imo. But forget trickshot on Longshot and use that for quickdraw (fanatical or predator). Also, checkout Rivas instead of Longshot. Dude gets free locks and does major work inside if the opponent forgets about him, or just go with scorch.

I really like this team personally. Or you could swap QD for backdraft WITHOUT the gunner and have a few more points for toys, but that it personal preference

I like the last one too...I think I just need to try all this, then I'll make my choice.
