Has anyone had any luck with ways to keep the wings upward, without breaking them, so they don't knock half the board over every 5 minutes?

I constantly tip them over accidentally and take a bunch of other ships out in the process. A friend suggested an elastic band, but I think I read somewhere that this was tried and resulted in damage.

Tips?
