Just beyond the border of the Imperium is a world dark and terrible, primal and ancient. It is a world that abhors the presence of Mankind, forever untamed and unconquered. For further information, or to lay claim to a specific character, e-mail Kettle of Fish Productions at [email protected] with Vox Recidivus in the subject heading.

On the Subject of Space Marines There are three Space Marine characters availible for Vox Recidivus, though exact details about these characters cannot be reveiled at this time. Keeping the tradition alive from last year, anyone wishing to play a member of the Adeptus Astartes must produce a credible Space Marine costume. We aren't looking for functioning Terminator Armour, just a costume that clearly says, "Space Marine!" If you think you can produce such a costume between now and Origins, contact Kettle of Fish Productions and we'll work out the details.

A Quick Update

We've gotten the scheduel from the Origins staff and are please to report that Vox Recidivous will take place Friday at 11am in the Peppercorn ballroom.

Oh no...a 40k LARP...partido_risa.gif

From what I've heard, the one last year went over rather well. And while you may find this hilarious, there are people who put a whole helluva lot of effort into both the organizing and costuming for these events. Show a little respect, why don't you.

Oh c'mon...if you can't laugh at grown adults pretending to be Space Marines and Inquisitors then what can you laugh at? It's cool if people enjoy it, but it's still funny. I would hope the people doing it can maintain a sense of humor about the whole thing, because well...it's funny...

I tried LARP-ing once, and have friends who still LARP. Overall I'd say it's like going back to high school and trying to fit into a clique again. After a couple of instances of: "well, I know you just walked in the door, but I don't like you" silliness, I decided it wasn't for me.

Last years 40K LARP was a huge success. We had a wonderful turnout, and a good time was had by all. The mutants rebelled, a world was destroyed, and our players battled a life-sized daemon of Tzeentch. For those of you who couldn't make it, we got the whole event on video. Select clips can be seen below:

I know exactly what you're talking about. Many LARPs, especially long-running campaigns, tend to degenerate into cliquery, alienating new players and preventing the kind of interactions that make LARPs fun. We do everything we can to avoid that, and we've been successful so far. We're very welcoming to new players, and we're here to facilitate fun. Our goal is to make sure the players are having a good time. No one gets left in a corner.

to our detractors

Rest assured that we have a sense of humour, and while some may laugh at us, we're laughing as well. Harder, louder, and last.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Bravo sir!

For those who want another peek at last year's game, we found a few photos.

Two Tech Priests, accompanied by their servitor, petition Megiddo's last remaining Astropath for a service.

For those of you looking forward to this year's game, here is our revised character sheet.

Aww, you're breaking my heart! I would really loved to play the radical female Inquisitor, but I already have plans that weekend.

I'm sorry to hear you will be unable to attend, Aethel. The game will be poorer for your absence.

To clarify the subject of characters and gender, only four of our characters have specific genders. If you see a character with a female name, it can easily be played by a male, and vice versa. Altair can become Althea just as easily as easily as Jove becomes Juno.

In other news, we've just completed a new prop for the game. Enjoy this look at our new servitor drone.

Murray, the invincible daemonic skull!

This sounds like a blast.

What kind of rules system are you using? Is it purely RP, or is there conflict expected?

Generally our events are rules-lite. The rules system we are using is modeled after Cthulhu Live 3rd Edition. If you're familiar with that rules set then you will see a lot of things you recognize. We've reworked combat to make it faster, but it's just as deadly. The system uses straight-up math, so you won't be playing rock-paper-scissors or drawing cards or anything like that to determine the outcome of skill tests or psyker powers. Our system also makes use of Fate Points, though they function a little differently in LARP. If you'd like to know any specifics, please ask.

Pre-registration for the Origins Game Fair ends tonight at midnight. If you're planning to attend, tonight is you last chance to pre-register for Vox Recidivus. Save yourself the hassle of long lines for generic event tickets.

How the heck are you supposed to LARP with guns?

I mean, who's going to play fair when they don't have to touch you?

"Ooh, got you in the head." "No you didn't..." "Yes. I did."

"HERETIC SCUM! EAT CHAINSWORD!"

Lots of larps use guns, from muskets to miniguns. Looking at the character sheet - and given that they've stated themselves to be rules-lite - I'd guess that being hit in the head, chest or upper left arm has no mechanical effect beyond how you choose to react to the blow. If its one that kills you, snapping back your neck and falling on your backside would be wise, if not then clutching your arm and howling should suffice!

Blimey, but I wish I could give this a go. Hurry yourselves up and open a UK wing ;)

I agree you could, but how're you supposed to say it hit you when there's no projectile?

I mean, you could if you want but you'd have to make your own sound effects, which would be hilarious. gran_risa.gif

You know if you hit if your character's Warfare x Firearms exceeds your target's Agility x Dodge, though that assumes your target has declared a dodge. If not, the hit is pretty much automatic unless the target spends a Fate Point. Sound FX are optional, though as GM I would award bonuses to any player dedicated enough to shout "Dakka dakka dakka" when firing a bolter, or "Freem" when using a metla.

All that being said, the game was a success. The radical Lord-Inquisitor accomplished her secret mission, the Rogue Trader purchased an entire planet from the natives, and then saw that planet destroyed when the Lord-Inquisitor's actions accidentally released a Necron war fleet from stasis. I suspect next year's event will involve a trial and the swift and brutal justice of the Walpurgis Inquisitorial Synod.

Photos and videos will be posted shortly.

Personally, I'd rather just charge in and hit em' in the head with a chainsword.

And this looks pretty interesting, although a little stat-heavy for a LARP, as far as the ones I've looked up.

Boffer larping is just one kind out of several just like dungeon crawling is one type of table-top rpg experience. I guess it all depends on your location, but around these here waters, boffers are in the minority larp-wise while the kind Attila runs are the norm.
