Advice for getting Celebration Vader

By AT Leader, in Star Wars: Legion

I just found out that I will be attending Star Wars Celebration, but only on Sat! It will be my first Con!

Question for anyone who has done this before. Will all the Limited Edition Vader’s likely be gone by then? I don’t know how FFG normally handles these things. I assume that I would need to queue early. Has anything be said about availability after Day 1? Any advice about what it will take to get one would be appreciated!

TL:DR I want the Celebration Vader. I can’t be there Day 1. Any chance and what will it take?

No idea if the distribution will be at all similar, but the convention promo for X-wing at Adepticon was ticketed. People lined up an hour and a half or so before the doors to the vendor hall opened each day, and FFG handed out tickets so that people could come back and purchase the promo later. They only made so many available each day so that they had enough for the full weekend. Guests were limited to one per day.

Never been to Celebration so I don't know the set up, but since this is the only other convention-exclusive miniature FFG has put out so far it's all I can think of to go off of.

Entirely depends how many they make and how many people want. Unfortunately, this is sort of a unique situation. As mentioned above, FFG will typically hand out tickets and then you can come back anytime that day with the ticket to buy the promo. At the end of the day, all tickets are null and void and they hand out new tickets the following morning. If they make enough, you're good. It's entirely possible that they sell out on Friday. I'd make the FFG booth your first stop when they open on Saturday.

I can only assume they'll treat the Celebration Vader the same way they treated the Adepticon vulture droid. Limited number sold per day (50 per day at Adepticon) so they don't run out the first day, only one per customer (so no one buys up 20 in one go to then go sell them on eBay for 10x the actual value), and first come first serve. If you get a ticket for one, you're good to pick up your Celebration Vader at any time during the rest of the day. It's there second attempt at limited edition miniatures and it's doubtful they're going to have everything running smoothly.

The best advice is to get there and get in line as early as possible and make sure you're at the right line. At Adepticon, there was a line started over an hour before to get into the vendor hall to purchase vulture droids, but when the hall opened, FFG was already sold out. Apparently they had decided to let people lined up at a different door to come in 2 hours before everyone else had started lining up at the regular doors, just to purchase the day's tickets for vulture droids. Hopefully they don't pull that stunt again.

so do you know whether someone can buy 2 on 2 different days or is it just one per person with ID checking?

I’ve been trying to figure this out as well. Is it going to be at the ffg booth? Or is it in the main Star Wars celebration store? I’m going to try to get one Friday.

I wanna say something, I'm gonna put it out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back.

I want a Celebration Vader. If anyone happens to get their hands on 2 I will pay top dollar for one.

They're only $130 on eBay to preorder from experienced scalpers.

You don't want to sell me a $130 Vader. You want to go home and rethink your life.

Meanwhile, I'll spend my money on a third party Vader and enough LED's and sideglow fiber for four factions' worth of lightsabers.

The Vaders are already dropping below 110. Buying the first day might be a guarantee, but it can be more expensive.

I am not the seller.

Funny how context doesn't translate on the internet so well. Pretty sure he didn't think you were the seller but quoted you as a way of addressing the scalper.

At Celebration, info dump.

Unless you are a VIP your odds are very slim. VIP, vendors, employees get in 30minutes early. Vader was sold out in 10 minutes.

The problem is they have collectible pins and FFG got the highly coveted Sabine pin. However to buy the pin you need to buy something from the store and Vader at $30 is basically the cheapest option. So everyone who wants the collectors pin is buying Vader because they have to.

There are 100 Vader per day. 500 total. One Vader per person per day. So at least scalpers are going to be less common, but majority of these will just end up in trash.

Seems if some people might be getting it just for the pin, then being on the other end of the line might be worth offering money to someone who just bought the vader.

Considering how cons go, you'd have to be pretty inexperienced to not know that vader would be worth something and sell it on ebay.

Everyone I know who got one did so by giving money to someone in line who didn't want it.

Plus majority of people don't want to scalp online and maybe make a lot when they can get the cash now.

Make a sign "$XX for your Vader model" and just stand near the registers. :D

I was tempted.

Just search through the rubbish bins.

If an FFG employee asks what you're doing, inform them of their poor decision regarding their merchandise sales.

Plus eBay fees, Paypal fees, taxes, shipping hassles, the possibility of a complaint where paypal refunds the buyer and you don't get your Vader back, etc.

They sold out to the VIPs. I got to ffg by 1003.

If anyone here has a Vader and is willing to sell it, please contact me and we will discuss pricing.
