I always refer people to Wayne Barlowe .
He was one of the primary designers for Hellboy the movie (Hellboy II as well).
Here are some of his INCREDIBLE demons!
Here are some of his BIZARRE aliens.
Seriously, check him out!
Wayne Barlowe is an amazing artist and really has some great demons. The intensity of their, well, inhuman qualities mixed with what could be seen remotely as human is really close as to how I imagine the Warp and daemons are twisted. I don't have much to offer in terms of sci-fi art--but I'm rather a fan of artists such as:

Beksinski is probably the most striking of those artists I mentioned as he primarily worked with landscapes or oddly shaped human figures. Something that might be an inspiration for the next world you might visit or something more horrifying. Keith Thompson does some pretty interesting character studies and Paul Bonner leans toward the fantasy spectrum, but who knows. Maybe it'll be inspiring in a different way.
^YES! Zdzislaw Beksinski is awesome^

I'm so sad that he was murdered--even worse that it was over a piddling amount of cash by some punk on the street. He was just starting to do digital work as well.

I did not know that...
Bloody sad...
This is an artist I really admire and some of his works can be a great inspiration for stories. For those Nurgle-feelings check out his gruesome zombies.

John Blanche is great. I'm a big fan of his work in Blood on the Reik for Warhammer Fantasy. Jes Goodwin, also an artist for Warhammer Fantasy and 40k, has some great sketchwork and character studies. I'm looking to get his artbook for the old Eldar, Imperial Guard, Titan Princeps/Moderati and ganger artwork. Great stuff, but sadly out of print!
^^ Looks like Keith Thompson is a popular guy!

Actually he was killed in his apartment by a guy who's whole family was dependent on Beksinski (killers father, mother, the killer himself and his sisters were working for Beksinski as repairmen and house cleaners, and were paid big sums),because Beskinski didn't wanted to give him a loan.
Really? Wow, that's still pretty terrible. I must have had him confused with another artist.
Doing some research on Imperium starships for an upcoming scenario, I came across this:

He is, isn't he... You should seem some of the stuff that he's work on in "secret" for
Anargo
. I could show you, but then I would have to kill you.
Seriously, though, when the work is released I think that it might cause a few... stirs in the 40k hobbyist community. He truly is an exceptional artist.

I'll be meek, I'll mild, I'll bookmark your website, just as all loyal subject of our beloved Emperor should.
But Horus be damned, Magelord's art is so ass-kicking !!!! (I hope that last comment won't be considered as offensive language)
Oh, and I'll be patient too, so that you won't have to hunt me down.
Well the WiP website is actually here . I'm personally waiting with all geekdom in force waiting for this material to come out. It's going to challenge visions of the 40k universe, so if you feel that the specific artwork and material of the 40k background is the be-all-and-end-all then you might be more disappointed but... Well, even then I think that those that take the Rule of Canon rather than the Spirit of Canon wil appreciate it.
Kage
thanks a lot, Kage, I'll be sure to come back and check it out regularly.
But just for the sake of canonity, I consider canon what my players and I create, backed by canonized background and canon fandom, it goes without saying.
But I'd dare say that 'canon' is also a notion that GW never managed to grasp...
