Magnet Mayhem

By KommanderKeldoth, in Star Wars: Legion

I recently switched to a magnetic carry case for my army and glued tiny magnets to the bottom of all of my bases.

I used super glue, but now I am noticing that the magnets are popping off of the plastic bases pretty consistently (I notice at least 2 or 3 every time I take my army out).

Should I be using a different adhesive? Like an epoxy maybe?

Should I sand the magnets and bases to rough them up before gluing?

This is our most desperate hour. Help us FFG forums, you're our only hope.

I don't recommend sanding rare earth magnets, they're surprisingly brittle.

How tall are your magnets? If they're a decent way from the attaching surface, they're more likely to pull out. Also, is the case just a magnetic metal, or is it also magnetic? I prefer to magnetize one side.

I used a decent sized dollop of loctite gel superglue, and my magnets have stayed in pretty well. I've seen people use greenstuff to help hold magnets in though.

My case is just sheet metal. The magnets are too thin to touch the surface of the metal but they're like a millimeter or less away.

Yes. But as noted, be careful. Oddly, the smaller the magnet the less likely it is to crack in half. Also go with superglue gel and use plenty of it and give it a full day to dry before placing it on anything metal.

Get a little green stuff and put a plastic bag between the base and your sheet metal and glue it was super glue green stuff around it that way there's no space between the two

That should be close enough then, just wanted to make sure. That's about how far mine are from the bottom, and I've had decent success with putting enough gel super glue that it slops around the edges of the magnet. Using greenstuff to fill in the base can also help.

If you can get a drill bit the same size as your magnet, you can drill a small, not very deep hole on the bottom of the base. Glue the magnet into that hole. This should help hold it in place much better than just gluing it to the bottom of the base.
