Favorite non-film/TV Star Wars media

By ArcHammer, in X-Wing Off-Topic

What's your favorite Star Wars book/video game/comic/ etc?

For books, my favorites are probably the X-Wing novels. For games I'm torn between Dark Forces and TIE Fighter (both hit at pretty much the start of me getting heavily into star wars when I was young) and played a LOT of Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike (and the multiplayer version of the former embedded in the latter) during High School.

West End Games RPG, but I have a bias.

The original Knights of the Old Republic was insanely well done.

I played the RPG a bit a while ago (not nearly as much as West End's sister D6 game, Ghostbusters). It suffered the same fate as all my RPG exploits seem to due to not being able to keep a group together.

KOTOR is great, but I'm late to that party and was in an "I don't like Star Wars" phase when I initially played it.

I loved the West End Games (D6) RPG.

For books, I really enjoy the Han Solo Adventures novella trilogy.

For novels - thrawn trilogy, followed by the wraith squadron books, then the x-wing books (the first 4)..

For Computer/console games - Xwing vs Tie

For other - The WEG rpg.

Like a lot of SW fans, I haven't read many of the books or played any of the computer games. I think my favourite is the Marvel comic adaptation of Return of the Jedi which I guess probably came out soon after the films original release (I got it a few years later). Must have read that dozens of times.

TIE fighter video game. It was so immersive! That game opened me up to the world of Star Wars novels when I picked up the X-wing series.

Honorable mention goes to Republic Commando because the squad-based play and amazing score brought the Clone Wars home in a big way.

KOTOR is up there as one of my favorite. Some good books from Zahn, like the Thrawn Trilogy, and the Hands of Judgement books.

I have a large soft spot for the comic book version of Shadows Of the Empire. One of the first Star Wars comics I read, and I still hold it near and dear to me.

Books, it's Lost Stars for me but Dark Disciple is quite good.

Comics pretty much any of the old canon stuff. I personally dislike most of the new marvel comics because they're sort of superhero-ey (main characters never die and there's a lot of "redshirts"). Dr. Aphra is cool as a character but the execution has been poor IMO. Ever since Vader Dark Visions 3 I've been boycotting them. The comics that covered Mara Jade's redemption story and the ones that covered Guri's gaining of sentience and self-reprogramming are particularly good. I also really liked the whole series with Dass Jennir. Also, weirdly enough, Legacy... I guess I'm pretty alone there though.

Games, there haven't been a lot of good ones lately so I'm giving the shout out to RimWorld with all the Star Wars mods the community made.
