Tweek my republic.

By Matt2429, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have below, two substantially different fleets. The swarm list is obvious what I'm trying to accomplish, the second one is just kind of an idea that I thought of today while at work. Please suggest any tweeks you think might be of use to me. Please also note that I am anew player having only played 4 games total of x wing, 1.0 and 2.0 combined.

Swarm

(55) "Odd Ball" [ARC-170 Starfighter]
(3) Clone Commander Cody
(8) Perceptive Copilot

(4) R5 Astromech
Points: 87

(29) Blue Squadron Protector [V-19 Torrent Starfighter]

I don't think 4 ships counts as a swarm these days. The true Republic swarm is 2 ARCs with 4 scrub torrents. It's an ok list, but clunky.

If you feel like investing in a 3rd ARC, three ARCs and a Delta 7b Jedi is an emerging archetype for Rebels. Usually Mace with R4-P117 or Obi-Wan with an R4.

The "combined arms" archetype is also emerging, and is usually 2 or 3 Torrents, a Jedi, and an ARC.

If you're really crazy (like me) you run 5 scrub sprites or 4 named I4 sprites.

What strikes your fancy?

My thought process was chaining swarm tactics together to swing all st i5 but maybe its not a thing.

I'll be buying a 3rd arc once someone within 100 kms of me gets one in stock.

An 87 pt. Odd Ball will be your opponents first target and will go down in a blink of an eye if you’re not flying him carefully.

The other thing I want to mention are force upgrades. Imo none of those have a substantial benefit on any Jedi because 1. they are too expensive and 2. you have to spend your precious force to activate them. I rather consider other upgrades or go for a deeper bid.

/sign 100%. Don‘t let the 9 HP deceive you, ARCs go down FAST if focused and 3 force tokens aren‘t as many as you might think ;)

Another thing to look out for if you build synergistic lists: Make sure it doesn‘t stop working once one ship goes down. Or in other words: It‘s okay to have a ship as a centerpiece, but the rest of your list should either be numerous or useful enough to win the game on their own as well.

For the second list: I would also ditch R5 on Anakin... he takes a valuable action to repair a hull. Not a bad effect for sure, but R2 gives you a shield back for the simple cost of a Weapons Disabled. Since you will be disengaging from time to time anyway, I feel like R2 is just better as he can prevent another crit coming in. I would also seriously consider R4-P17 on Anakin as it synergizes well with his pilot ability.

Remove Swarm Tactics from the Torrents

Change Homing to Cluster Missiles

Remove the torpedoes from the ARCs

Jag or Wolfe instead of Odd Ball?

As far as the first list goes, the thing that immediately jumps out about it is 'too many upgrades'! Torrents in particular strike me as cheap, swarmable filler that should not be heavily invested in - I believe missiles are a mistake, as is as paying the 4pt premium for an elite slot and one point of Init.
Likewise, 'Odd Ball' is loaded down with stuff he just doesn't need and that will make losing him all the more sour (as well as painting a big bullseye on his face...) - I'd say you can strip out everything except for Cody - though given the synergies with his ability I can see Synched Console staying as well. You might also consider R4-P17 or R4-P44 for him (since both synergise with his ability), instead of the Console.

This leaves around 65pts to play with - you could get a reasonably priced Jedi or another ARC-170 for that, depending on preference. 'Sinker' is a solid choice given the number of other ships, though you could also get 'Jag' with Palpatine who I think is going under the radar a bit at the moment.

Reading your comments about the first list and I've come up with this update. What do you folks think of this version?

Sinker torrents

(54) "Sinker" [ARC-170 Starfighter]
(14) Chancellor Palpatine

I don't think you need a bid with a list like this since your initiatives are mostly 2's and 3's. Wolffe is only two more points, so I would upgrade Jag to Wolffe.

That's fair, so what about the droid on jag? Keep or drop it? I just thought it synergied with jag.

I'd drop it. It doesn't really synergize with Jag since you gain a lock, you don't perform the lock action. But I would keep CCC on Wolffe since he shoots first, so if he whiffs he can strip an agility from the target. You could move the R3 to Sinker though. Since he doesn't benefit from his own ability, having more rerolls would be good for him.

Keep in mind thought that you want to run Sinker on the inside axis of whatever formation you run. It makes it a lot easier to keep your whole group inside his side arcs.

This just came to me while I've been sitting here waiting. Thoughts?

3 jedi fighters

(60) Anakin Skywalker [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(10) Calibrated Laser Targeting
(4) R2 Astromech
Points: 74

(53) Obi-Wan Kenobi [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(8) Calibrated Laser Targeting
(4) R2 Astromech
Points: 65

(6) Calibrated Laser Targeting
(4) R2 Astromech
(3) Heightened Perception

Don't do it. Local guy's been trying it and it's just too flimsy.

If you want to run Jedi your numbers are one, two, four, or five, not three.

One Jedi lists usually include 3 ARCs or a mix of one ARC and two or three torrents. Haven't seen many two Jedi lists, but they usually run one ARC or two Torrents. Four and five Jedi lists just run Aethersprites.

That said, I think something like this would be interesting:

Jedi + Delta 7b + Synch Console

Jedi + Delta 7b + Synch Console

104th Battalion + Synch Console

104th Battalion + Synch Console

The core lists is 192 points so you have 8 points to play with. I used them for synch'd consoles, but you could put R2s on the Jedi, upgrade one Jedi to Mace, or something like that.

I'm going to disagree with knute and say keep it. While Jag's ability doesn't work with the second part of what an R3 brings to the table (acquiring a lock after doing a lock action) you can still use his ability to gain a second lock if you already have a target locked. It just makes him that much more of a treat for 3 points.

As someone who has flown Jag with r3, its really nice with Synched console. Hand off locks, every time jag fires. If a ship has a sweet range 1 shot one of the two ships Jag has locked, Jack can hand it off.

That said, it is droppable if you need the points.

With that 2pts leftover though, get Synched Console on Jag asap. It is a beautiful thing. In fact, Id drop cody and r3 to get synched console on all three V19s. Toss locks around willy nilly. "Oh, that guy has a range 1 attack, let me fire from range 3 through a rock, not spend my lock, and let my buddy over there get a lock for a full mod range 1 attack." Will make those v19's deadly if not taken care of.

Get Wolffe instead of Sinker. Keep Jag & R3

Add Sync Console

Run two Jedis (Mace & Generic)

I ran this lastnight and did well, lost wolf but killed his entire squad except wedge. Any suggestions welcomed. I triggered tail gunner twice.

APWolf

(60) Anakin Skywalker [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(4) R2 Astromech
(10) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 74

(51) Plo Koon [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(4) R2 Astromech
(8) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 63

(51) "Wolffe" [ARC-170 Starfighter]
(4) Veteran Tail Gunner
(4) Shield Upgrade
(4) Expert Handling
Points: 63

Total points: 200

I like 4 gold torrents, 104th and Sinker with Cody for an even 200.
