Anyone else notice a sharp decline in quality of stands?

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

Recently I purchased two Resistance A-Wings and the Guardians of the Republic pack.

One of the A-Wings had it's little base connector thing angled forwards so that it's pointed downward when on a stand. It's base stem pieces did not fit together right and look like a bent twig when all together.

Two of the stands that came with the guardians of the republic pack don't seem to end in the half circle. They appear to be almost fully circular and the ships won't fit on them.

I never had these sort of problems with the first edition. Is anyone else having these problems?

I had a few bad stands in 1.0, including one warped enough it wobbled. What was more annoying was the change in stand size part way into 1.0.

My recent Z-95 stand had a peg that won't stay locked in the base, but the quality seems basically the same to me, except they now also feature an FFG logo.

OTOH, I have enough stands to sink a battleship, so who cares? 😏

I store all my ships on their stands to avoid risk of breaking them and wearing out the stands by constantly removing and replacing them. So it does kinda mess me up if some of the ships don't come with good stands.

But then how do you change the cardboard base? One pilot forever??

And, to be honest, I could do with more medium bases, since I don't have 1.0 leftovers. . .

The bases and pegs have been pretty bad since wave five. I have all original pegs for any ships prior to wave five, another stack of pegs for wave five up and hope between them all I can find something that will work for 2.0 releases. They have been steadily declining in quality for quite sometime now. Which reminds me, I still have to modify medium bases so they will actually hold ID tokens.

Yes. It's frustrating.

I have noticed a sharp decline in peg quality. I have also noticed that the bases that came with my Servants box are molded backwards. When assembled, the arrow on the base points backwards relative to the ship facing. That is a new one.

The quality is variable. I've got enough stands to sink a battleship, however, so if I had the time or inclination I would sort through them all and discard the worst offenders...

yes, definitely! i got a guardians pack, an arc and a delta and only one decent stand between them. 2 ships are pointing in the wrong direction, one is so loose i threw away one of the pegs and another ship can point in any direction i like.

as others have said, i can use another base but that's not really the point!

I recently picked up A-Wings. Two of them have pegs that were glued into the bottom of the ship crooked so they sit crooked on a base. Good thing expansions are $5 more per expansion now.

My 2 MG Ties came with terrible stands. Not only they're a bit inclined, it's easier for them to connect with the base stand... backwards! 🤔

Pretty much all of w3 is wonky for me.

Yes, it's very annoying

I separate the two pegs, place the cardboard thingy on and then reattach them

Wow, looks like this issue is pretty widespread. What is up with that?

Well, they upped the price on expacs, which means they don't have the budget to provide for better stands.

Er, wait. . .

I've had bad luck with the models in 2.0. More specifically the way they sit when I place them on the stands. I bought two core sets and every single model sits on the peg loose and crooked. Almost all of my first edition ships ( except maybe two, and I have a lot) sit nice on the stands and fit snuggly. I'm definately experiencing a quality issue in second edition.

Its been both bad and good- my Mining Guild TIEs were horrible, but my TIE Striker and SoS stuff has been fine. I magnetize everything anyway, so it doesn't effect me too much, but it does seem slightly worse overall.

I just got two more A-wings and one of them was bent forward like you describe. I cracked the attachment, moved it straight, and re-glued it.

I've noticed the peg connector issue for several waves now. What I've found is that if then peg is too loose the "right" way, it will often go in tightly spun around the "wrong" way. The peg will then go into the base either way. I think I've managed to use all my new pegs by doing this. I also make sure I get the best fit into the ship and then I'll swap pegs between ships to get the best fit overall.

There has always been that one ship sits off center 5% - 10% (but was fairly easily fixable) since the game began, but it seems there are bigger issues in 2.0.

My question is, why did they drop the ball on the Sith Infiltrator? It should have been a really cool model (didn't need moving parts). I haven't purchased any of the new factions, but that looked soooo interesting; but everything I've seen and heard just show it up to be a poorly sculpted, terribly painted model. At that price point?!?

I'll just come in to repeat what others have already said. I have two separate stacks for pegs and bases. I found that the stands, especially large based, are so different in size as to be incompatible! In 1e there was a noticable change around when the Force Awakens core set came out that was severe enough that I started painting the ends of my new pegs a different color so I wouldn't break another too small mount on the older ships.

Huh?? I like mine pretty darn well.

Must be Darth bias.

All of my RZ-2's have been like this, and all of the Belballubs' pegs are actually attached backwards.

It's not entirely a new problem? I think my Auzitucks are where I've noticed a bit of crookedness the most, though that could be largely due to playing with them more.

Yes

I have about 100 models from 1st edition and I can think of only two that have funky peg connectors on the bottom of the ship that makes the ship sit wonky. 2nd edition I'm batting 0 for 6 ( two core sets ). Eeek
