AdeptiCon High Command top 8 - Never Tell Me the Odds

Wow, so little variation.

Aside from the complete lack of support units, which is surprising to me, and heavies, which isn't surprising to me, most other units showed up.

Rebels didn't have Jyn, Wookies, Generic Commanders (But there were officers scattered around), and the support and heavies showing up. Empire didn't have Vader (for obvious reasons), the generic commander (still appeared as an upgrade though), along with their support and heavies.

The only thing I find disappointing about the lists is the prevalence of snipers, which I find to be boring.

The real lack of good impact on all of the lists (except 4th place) says to me that RTs, particularly flamethrower ones, would've done well at this tournament. Luke would've done good damage, but it's better to have Luke caught up trying to take down 1 RT than massacring squads of troopers. I'm real curious to see what the lower placed lists were.

I’ll have a full breakdown at some point.

There was some variety in the top LCQ lists also; there was a Jyn and some Wookiees (Chris Cook ran Wookiees and was 4-0 on LCQ day), though still no support or heavies. I considered Wookiees myself, and I think they would have been fine. Actually very few people were running Pathfinders.

Well, I would say that in a fledgling community with a new game, everyone will take what they are most comfortable with and what they have time to practice with. Most of the other newer units were just released.

If you look closer, other than a few upgrades and 3 specific units, every single one of those lists could have been fielded by the end of September of last year, roughly 6 months prior to High Command. This makes me wonder how large a factor familiarity was vs how good trooper/sniper spam is. Not really something you can measure but it is interesting.

Does this mean we won't see newer units on the competitive scene for 3-6 months after they release (or more)? Does this mean that the folks that placed at High Command focused on lists they had created 3+ months prior and took those lists because of "getting their reps in" and didn't actually experiment with the newer units? Does it mean none of these things?

It's possible that people are just not used to the newer units yet.

The few "Off-Meta" stuff that turned up seemingly did rather well overall.

Therefore, it's more likely people have become "used" to certain list archetypes and haven't really got answers to new stuff yet.

I'll predict this here for the next major tournament:

More vehicles and less snipers in favour of Imperial Royal Guards/Death Troopers or Wookies/Pathfinders.

Triple sabs made top 8. Nice

I was number 4 on that list, and have been playing the same list since September. I made little changes leading up to HC based on what I thought would work on the day (switches from Impact to Frags, added officers, etc). Little stuff like that.
