Asmodee Germany discontinuing IA

X-Wing has/had(?) that mode to. Was called Epic and almost nobody played it. And those ships were bigger than the SSD and still only half the price (or even cheaper)

The SSD is around two feet long. It’s about twice the size of an epic x-wing ship.

I'm collecting all these threads where people is calling the end of the game. I will then spam the announcement of the new expansion on all of them...

You know what? If I'm wrong, I will never have been more delighted to be wrong in all my life. You can quote my words back at me over and over again for weeks and I won't stop smiling. I'd love to be wrong. Please, let me be wrong!

But people have been telling me I'm wrong for months and months, now. "They'll announce something this Friday / at the next con / at World's / in time for Thanksgiving / before Christmas!", they keep saying. It keeps not happening.

This is honestly one of those cases where I do hope I'm wrong.

But again, most of us aren't calling it the end of the game necessarily. We're just concerned, and have had absolutely no feedback from FFG regarding it. That's where our frustration comes from.

Just to add on top of this, in Italy we just got the announcement of new kit for upcoming tournaments

Just to re-iterate it is necessary and expected that FFG will keep supporting OP until the moment that they are ready to announce its retirement (because blanking tounament support would effectively be announcing the game was over anyway). So tournament kit isn't an indicator that the game has a future.

The Ewok image is the best straw of evidence that we have had that the game may not yet be done.

Nothing would make me happier 😁

At the Star Wars Celebration or whatever it's called FFG is giving IA campaign demonstrations twice a day! Isn't that a good sign? Check out the schedule.

It seems likely that the "death" of Imperial Assault will be simply an end to official skirmish support and/or no new products while keeping at least the Campaign boxes in print. With the app support, IA campaign occupies a popular board game niche (considering how many miniature-using, grid-based board games with campaigns seem to thrive on Kickstarter) and while it may not be the newest hotness as far as such games go, it is "the Star Wars one." Unless FFG or some other company has a similar game coming down the pipe, one would hope at the very least they'd want to hold that niche.

Typo

I’ve been wanting to buy the game, but I’ve held off buying until I hear something about a new product. I’d probably buy it the day of such an announcement.

I'd say this should really depend on if you're planning on playing Skirmish or Campaign...

If you're planning on Skirmish, don't bother. Unless you have a large group of friends locally who play a lot.

If you're wanting to do Campaign, then there is so much content available that you're not going to run out any time soon. Jump in. Both feet. And enjoy!

The Game is entirely worth a purchase. Even if skirmish support stops you wont regret picking it up before it's gone. I hear older sets are harder and harder to find.

Hey folks,

just for your information:

The only source for the information that Asmodee Germany is discontinuing IA is a single thread in the German IA forums, posted by someone who isn't an Asmodee employee, as far as I can see. The thread has 2 replies, one of which is asking the original poster for a source, which he hasn't provided yet. And there are some grammar mistakes in the quoted news. (Granted, I have no idea whether Asmodee Germany is good at proofreading or not, and I've seen worse mistakes in official releases.)

There's nothing on the Asmodee Germany website, even though there are plenty of news for the last three days.

There's nothing on the Asmodee Germany Facebook site, even though there are plenty of news for the last three days.

There's nothing on Asmodee Germany Twitter, even though there are plenty of news for the last three days.

I'm unable to find any trace of such news on Google, except for the Asmodee Germany forum and the quote in this thread.

Now, it's completely possible the original poster has a source I've missed, or has received an e-mail by Asmodee Germany, but until there is some sort of source, I'd be wary. I think it's completely possible it is true, but right now I'm unable to verify his information.

Sorry, but you're wrong there. If you go back to the start of this thread here you'll find my quote from an Email I got forwarded to me from Asmodee Germany. This is an email to retailers. This is as official as it gets. Plus the thread in the German forum started *after* this thread. So guess who referenced who?

I stand corrected, then :) Thanks for clearing it up!

Maybe someone should post this in the German Asmodee forums? Because as it is, just a quote without a source makes this seem fishy - I might not be the only one questioning the credibility.

Ninja'd

Localization of the App into German required changes to the app, and those apparently have been done with the latest app release.

Yep, I think that's official enough - my bad 😁

For everyone who doesn't speak German - that's an official confirmation. I thought an interesting tidbit was in the German forums, where an employee of Asmodee confirmed it, too, and also said that probably neither another company nor FFG itself is going to pick it up. She also said this, however:

"FFG plant nicht, Imperial Assault einzustellen. Unsere Ankündigung bezieht sich einzig und allein auf den deutschen Markt und die deutschen Imperial Assault Produkte."

Translation: "FFG does not plan to discontinue Imperial Assault. Our announcement relates solely to the German market and the German Imperial Assault products."

That's interesting, although it might just mean that she (or Asmodee altogether) doesn't know if FFG is discontinuing it or not.

(Not really the right topic for this, but still...)

I myself am an hopeless optimist and I cannot shake the feeling that all this silence and mystery we are experiencing concerning Imperial Assault could very well be due to development on a second edition. If they were working on such a project, they very well could do so at the expense of the current edition (i.e. slowing down releases), and they (especially a secretive company like FFG) would not speak a single word of this until they were a few months away from release.

There are arguments against continuing IA, (especially the fact that since it is technically a boardgame, Hasbro must have its share of the sales), but I cannot help but feel there's great things coming for us!

So there! I remain irritatingly optimistic and refuse to change! 😜

Even if you're right @angelman2 and FFG does continue or upgrade IA it will make little difference to a complete stop on the game for the German market if Asmodee isn't even distributing it anymore. Buying from Overseas is bloody expensive.

We will have to wait and see...

Yeah, as I said, my comment wasn't quite right for this topic. I live in Norway myself, and know how expensive it is to buy from overseas... (our local gaming shops are even crazier, price-wise, so buying from Norwegian shops is often not an option neither). Let's hope the 'inevitable' ( 😉 ) IA2nd Edition gets picked up by Asmodee Germany again.

I highly doubt that. The wording in the original Email is rather clear. Asmodee Germany has a rather poor track record of being slow on translations and with every other new release that cue gets longer. Either somebody else will do translation and distribution or we will simply be left out and will have to order in the UK or NL.

Even bigger problem: Asmodee Germany just recently managed to stop the UK distributor delivering to Germany. So local shops not just do not get the stuff from Asmodee Germany anymore, they cannot get it anywhere else, too.

So we shouldn't believe everything we read on the internets? The sky is not falling? @Trevize84 better get his post ready! I'm going to get some popcorn while I watch him mock all of those naysayers. @cleardave

Brexit issues? Or something more tame?

No such problems in our neck of the woods. If I am not mistaken our shop also supplies FFG games to the Balkans. But they don't sell localized versions (too small market for that), just in English.
