Asmodee Germany discontinuing IA

By SunDancerGE, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So this is just in from Asmodee Germany

We would like to inform you already now that Star Wars™: Imperial Assault will no longer be available from Asmodee Germany in the medium term.

For many years the game has accompanied us, now it is time to let the product expire. As long as we still have the game and the expansions in stock, you can order them as usual. We’ll let you know as soon as we know an exact date for the delivery stop. This also means that we will not locate any new Imperial Assault products and will not publish any more information about the game.

I don’t know if this means FFG is cutting ties with Asmodee Germany or the game is simply been put down. Both would be somewhat disturbing :S

Hmm, not sure how to read that.

What is Asmodee Germany's role in this game?

If they're actively involved, this could be real bad.

If they're essentially just a rung on the supply chain, I might read this more as there probably being new stuff coming.

Asmodee Germany (fomerly Heidelbär) is the only distributor for all things FFG. They got bought by Asmodee who also owns FFG as you know. Either AG is loosing the IA distribution, IA get's a V2.0 reboot or it's halted. AG has had problems with the translation in the past for multiple reasons leading to getting things very late. (Doom and Fallout where a year late in Germany)

Ah, well. It's been a good run. A real shame they couldn't bring themselves to release just one more wave (for Yoda, Ewoks, Scout Troopers, 4-LOM/Zuckuss, and a Boba fix...), three or four more blister packs was all it needed; but I and my gaming group have had more fun from this game than basically any other game ever, and it's been fun playing in tournaments too.

Is it possible FFG is simply cutting ties with Asmodee? It appears to be a huge mess of a relationship that hasn't really shown any signs of cleaning.

Well some other company will get my money because frankly I don't find any of the other games to my liking.

P.S.-I tried @cnemmick 's Boba Fett and Dengar fix last night. They're both pretty good. Not OP and makes them viable.

Well, it's a good thing that Asmodee Germany is just a translation and distribution arm and not responsible for creating new IA product.

This news doesn't tell us anything about IA's future except that AG won't be the one distributing the product to Europe anymore.

Very doubtful

So on top of all of the mishandled PR over the past year, this is how it goes out? A vague announcement from the distributor that eludes to a product discontinuation by the manufacturer? Wow. So glad I'm not sucked into buying any other games from this mess of a company.

We should let any language different than English expire... It's almost 2020, time to remove barriers

I mean there have been like 20 other signs that you could point to and say "this is how it goes out?" like the lack of design card reward for winning worlds, lack of products in the pipeline, bad PR, Todd responding to questions about the future of IA with "i have nothing to say about it", etc. This is just the latest thing.

Was thinking the same thing. And we find it in German, on top of everything else.

Seems about on par for their PR.

Though obviously I hope @Tvboy is right, and this is meaningless.

I mean, either way FFG really needs to be open now more than ever. If the game is dead, just put out an article for it and be done with it. Good lord.

There comes a point where optimism becomes delusion.

If there's more coming, all they have to do is say so.

@brettpkelly do you have any pull with FFG since your win? Can you find anything out buddy?

They got me feeling like:

I'll do my best but i reaaaally doubt they'll tell me anything definitive

Distribution in Poland was put on hold year ago. Polish distributor -"Galakta" - is still intrested in giving it a shot, but FFG is forcing them to order high amount of stuff that is imposible to sell. They can not afford to loose money on every wave. Last box we had - HotE, last blister wave - Jabba's Realm.

Sorry to hear that my friend.

I'm not so sure about Poland but I do know that Germany had a big IA following. The more this happens, the closer IA gets to shutting down completely.

its like watching a grandparent near the end. You know its coming but you don't know when...

I'm not saying there's hope for this game's longevity,

buuut

I just see this as a company stopping work on Localizing/Translating a product for whatever reason. Maybe their sales were too low because they were always late with the localized copies and everyone had already gotten english product elsewhere so they figure it's not worth doing anymore.

So no more IA in Germany doesn't necessarily mean no more IA everywhere.

I feel bad for Germany though. :(

Funny thing this year the European Championship is in Poland.

The same could be said for pessimism. Life is way more enjoyable on the side of optimism, my friend. Both should be tempered with good sense of realism though.

Yeah, because community in Poland is very strong, miniature gaming community and Star Wars community. Compared to country it's huge... but when you look at the numbers... I belive some US companies forgot how diferent European market is and how big USA is compared to European countries. Even if every activ player in Poland would buy "Lothal" at the premiere day it would be like 10% of what FFG wants.

That was the problem since the begining, Core Game was delayed in Poland about a year or more... so part of community is collecting english version from the start.

Looking at the rate of product releases in the past two years (one big box in 2017, one small box in 2018, nothing planned or announced for 2019), not to mention all the other small clues, I don't think I'd call it "pessimism" to say that FFG is not giving IA the amount of support it needs to maintain Organized Play. Campaign players might be happy with an app campaign every year or so, but skirmish players are going to move onto something else.

Honestly, I could live with the 20`17 model- a box wave, and a figure wave each year, about six months apart.

I think that would be sustainable enough, especially if the figure wave came with some fixes or attachments/items that could shake things up.
