Oh I know what it is, I just don't have any connection to it to make me go "oh wow! Take my money!"
But to each their own. As I said above, I didn't even want to buy Stormtroopers for this game so I'm clearly not a yardstick.
But Rogue One has been THE thing for me in the last 10 years of my fandom (and the X-Wing miniatures game), and so anything form it I'll eat up.
And I totally think we will get the Saber, it'll just be a Clone Wars unit instead. That's where my head goes when I see that tank.

I was referring to the "quick invent a new "trooper" part. There are (theoretically) lots of planets with beaches in the galaxy. How many maglev trains need pimp-coat sporting guards?

Hey, I enjoy seizing onto off-hand remarks to feel outrage as much as the next guy, but nobody is gatekeeping you.
You can be an old fan and not like old things, or like new things more. More power to you.
I just don't like seeing what is obviously an armored truck referred to as a tank when we know there are tanks, and they aren't trucks.

You could also make them board ships where the gravity generator broke. If there is such a thing in star wars, not sure I ever saw it mentioned.

I'd think there are a lot of applications for mag boots and cold weather gear in the Empire. Resources are often plentiful in mountainous regions, after all, and high altitude tends to be cold.

How many beaches need fighting on, given the fact that the majority of combat insertions are aerial?
I'm not going to sit here and pretend that everything in Star Wars NEEDS to make sense. It doesn't. In fact that's often a red herring. I'd just like the guys designing new things to stop making aggressive anti-sense.
I've already accepted this is a universe with walking tanks, space wizards, and laser swords. When you tell me the Empire has a specialist division of beach fighters I roll my eyes. When you push the specialist beach fighters as a unique unit in a wargame, I complain impotently on the internet and don't buy your product.
Now, the good news for grognards like myself is that the Clone Wars setting looks promising, even if they aren't getting "My Version of the GCW" just right.

Don't worry about it. How old you are and how long you've liked Star Wars really doesn't matter here. We're all here for the same reason.
I like that the Baywatch troopers have synergy with the heavy blaster served by snowtroopers. It suits my idea of the inefficiency of Imperial bureaucracy.
Do you know why these guys are better than normal troopers?

Still they are kind of unecessary, in contrast to Death and Range troopers who kind of demanded by the script(feeling like an actual threat or moving around a moving train).

I think the article suggests the emplacement trooper mortar will only be available alongside Shoretroopers. So you'll still need these models.

In total fairness, MOST stormtrooper variants are of questionable utility.
I maintain that few if any are of more questionable utility than shoretroopers.
In my headcanon they exist because Imperial engineers were looking at a budget surplus one year and needed to keep their jobs.

Yup this is all true. If I've accepted all this craziness, and then even I think something's too crazy, then it probably needs evaluation. The difference is whether there's enough pros to balance out the cons of a new craziness.
My only issue is that I would have thought these would be good special forces, but bad corps. Because they are rarer than hen's teeth, doesn't make sense for corps. Given that FFG apparently hates non-stormtrooper squads of imperials, and loves to make the Legion models Rogue-compatible, they were inevitable. I'll still take them over the jet and riot troopers that SW:IA got! Though as a hard bitten R1 fan it's not like I'd have needed these as corps to make a R1 themed army. Ordinary stormtroopers are all over that film. Krennic, Deathtroopers, Occupier and/or AT-ST, that's a legal and varied R1 Imperial army. Rebels have Jyn, Troopers (none of whose details make them Scarif-exclusionary), Pathfinders, and whatever else they'd feel like culling for an army. Fleet troopers did appear onscreen, The atgar or RT crews can be painted as Scarifly-correct. So it's not like R1 armies have been beyond the reach of the dedicated thus far.
But it doesn't matter now. For GCW anyways. This game is close to hitting the critical mass of 1991 D6 (people forget it took a few years to get the original 147 sculpts which provided the bedrock of that game) or Rebel Storm (a masterfully designed first wave if ever a minis game had one). Then no one will be squabbling about correct disposition of release-schedule-resources.
I for one don't honestly give a **** what they announce anymore despite what hype I may get swept up in on here. I still want a "real" Hoth commander and ewoks. But whatever.

The Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide says they were veteran Stormtrooper squad leaders on special assignment rotations. I'd expect we might see one make an appearance in the next "Specialists" box - maybe as a heavy upgrade with "Leader" and giving access to a training upgrade card.

I'd love to get one commander from each OT film, Dodonna, Reikan, and Crix Madine though I figure the next commander/operatives to be added to the Rebels will likely end up being either Rebels ones like Kannan and Ezra to help level stuff out with the Republic with Inquisitors for the likewise Imperial ones or for them to do additional Rogue One characters.
Of course, it might be interesting if they did an operative release that gave the rebels and republic a unit and the CIS and Empire a unit too, like R2 and 3PO for Rebels and Republic, and I'm less sure for Empire and CIS since one of their big crossover bounty hunters to me was Bossk.

It depends, since they keep mentioning that the mortar and its rebel counter part are detachments, which might mean you HAVE to take the Rebel Vets or Shoretroopers to take one. Effectively making it a heavy upgrade that instead of adds to a unit gives you an additional one.

There isn't even any real justification for making them different from Stormtroopers. They were in mixed units with no discernible specialization or purpose. What IS the purpose of a shoretrooper? To fight... on the beach... better? Are they the designated Imperial volleyball team?
And, of course, Disney/FFG deciding that an armored truck was a perfectly acceptable alternative to a real armored combat vehicle because it was also in the movie.
Shoretroopers were more highly trained, which is why I suspect they ended up going with the unit since they A) made sense to get a training slot and B) sort of mirrored Rebel Vets in being from an environment that more or less matched their creature trooper release.
The Rebel's speeder actually makes a fair bit of sense, it showed up weaponized in the newer Battlefronts which FFG seems to like to pull from, speeders being weaponized make sense as seen with the Naboo in TPM and in Rebels, and as Rebels taking what they can and making due with it seems to fit them very well. That is not to say I wouldn't like to see purpose built weapons for them as I've always been a fan of the old T-series tanks, especially the T2-B and T4-B ones and heck of those the T2-B is even canon.

Because they wanted to mirror the Rebel Vets to give the Imperials a Corps unit with a Training slot. I imagine that we will see 'Mud Troopers' at somepoint for the Empire, with them likely being cheap expendable units to reflect how they were used in new canon. Maybe due to that they might even release them alongside a commander like Tarkin.
