Storage options?

By FrogTrigger, in Star Wars: Legion

The age old question for mini games, what are you using to store your components?

As a new player there are an over whelming amount of options so I would really appreciate some suggestions from the community on what has worked for them!

Thanks for your time.

Tackle box. I have this one

It's worked well for me as a rebel player, but it might be too shallow to fit an ST in.

Right now it's all on a shelf, with a list riding to a game in a foam-padded Plano that has room for 800 points if I don't bring any heavies, AT-RTs, or FDs.

So I could really use a good flexible storage option.

Feldherr all the way for me.

I filled a Battlefoam P3 backpack with some of the custom Legion cutouts, and some generic infantry trays. The overflow trays came in a cardboard box with carrying handle.

KR Multicase. Besides being a good, affordable storage system, I especially appreciate that their logo is discreet and doesn't advertise 'massive nerd'.

Also Feldherr here :)

A cardboard case with foam inserts. Cheaper, a lot lighter and smaller than those sturdy hard boxes, equally safe.

Warhammer 'Ardcase. Great for airplanes.

I bought a collection that came in a Battlefoam 1520 topper. I will probably continue to use Battlefoam and buy more as I expand.

For those using Feldherr, I use them for my Armada collection and I have a Rigid Toolbox that will fit the Feldherr foam three trays wide and 221mm total height. I did some dremeling out of rails inside to smooth the walls and it is my favorite storage solution I own. The bottom is not flat and you can get some lean on the outer 2 trays, but it is fine; but my OCD is driving me crazy and I will find a solution to this eventually. I will get pictures one of these days to share.

Glued magnets to all my bases and store my models on metal trays inside of a battle foam hard case. The advantages are that models never touch each other or rub against foam, and you can fit a lot if them in a small amount of space.

If you're trying to save money, you can:

1) Use empty egg cartons to store your small based minis

2) Use empty Starbucks drink holders to hold your medium-based minis (rubber band one on top of the other). Make sure you don't crush your AT-RT antennae!

I haven't found a cheap/easy/homemade thing yet for large-based models.

Starbucks cup holders, you said cheap! 4 drinks is easily $20.

I use plano tackle boxes

Haha...I just ask them for some. :P

Filthy Casual. ^^sw_fanboys.jpg

By the way, pirates are mainstream now, aren't they? Asking for a friend.

Not going to lie, up until very recently it was all in the core set box with the exception of the AT ST. Now I have to figure out a more permanent solution. Contemplating using a gun case like I did back when I first started gaming, but maybe with some pluck foam for the large things. I have a better paying job than when I was a kid but significantly more bills taking away my money haha

I have 40k friends who are using KR cases and love them, and another friend who just bought a tacklebox and put some foam he cut himself inside the slots.

I gotta say though I am really liking the magnet idea, it also gives the mini some good weight on the field. The bases are hollow to which is nice, easy to hide a magnet in there..

How well does that travel on say a plane though? Do you have any specific walk through or guide you used for your set up?

Yeah, no way you can check a case with magnet held minis. Even as a carry on I wouldn't since that case may get flipped on its side or drop when someone else is making room in the overhead. You need foam to travel.

I flew to LVO with a magnetic case, and it was perfectly fine. Just put it under the seat in front of you. If you're careful and vigilant, the overhead bins could work depending how rugged your case is.

I use the A-Case+ from army-case.com

Legion minis are light enough that you don't have to worry about the models flying around. I wouldn't fly with my metal Infinity models, though...

What size/where did you grab magnets from? I've always seen washers and magnetic tape laid down in a tool tray.. but seems like magnets would be a much stronger hold.

Ah yeah, you for sure want neodymium magnets if you’re going to travel with them. I just glue them to the bottom of each mini with the usual CA glue. I get mine from K&J Magnetics. 1/4” diameter x 1/16” thickness.

i went the magnet route, wish i had done this in other games years ago

yes this is by far the best way i even have my card holder magnetized so when units die they go on there card and ready to move to my next game no hassle

I'm going to do this. What kind of case do you guys use/recommend?

im thinking I'll look at Home Depot for some sort of shallowish, wide but not to wide took tray that clamps shut?

I started using the Husky modular tool box system for my collection. They have a tray that fits twelve squad-sized cups for $25. There are also various additional units that all lock together so you can move it all at once. One of them is a large bin with a handle and wheels that easily fits the larger models.
