Problems with punisher's cockpit and engines

By Manolox, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hi everybody, i'm repainting a tie punisher but both primer and colors don't seems to want to bond to the cockpit grid and engines and I can't leave them black

I think the original glossy black color may not be acrilic....

Help!

Have you got some advise?

you could try using a little bit of sand paper...maybe 😕

To renove the old color?

It Could work on cockpit! Thanks . but on engines.....sand paper would destroy details

Try scrubbing it with soapy water and a toothbrush. I have never run into this problem with any xwing models and I never strip or clean or sand the original paintjob. Must be some oily residue.

There is something strange about the paint on the TIE Punishers! When I out-scienced myself by stripping paint with >99.995% isopropanol and a laboratory grade sonic cleaner , only the TIE Punisher retained its FFG paintjob. I was aiming to strip my shoddy paint job from the models and ended up getting both mine and FFG's with just the 1 exception of the TIE Punisher.

I used laboratory grade supplies, I couldn't get it off...that's not to say I couldn't, if duly motivated...

@Manolox That is an odd problem indeed if the primer has a hard time sticking. It should work after washing any potential residue and then priming/painting.

Hope it works out.

Thank for advices....

Unforunately i discovered this particular thing after i fully painted the punisher's "body"

Taking as last parts to paint only engine and cockpit...... ****!

So i didn't want to waste my work and i tried this solution...

I putted some matt varnish as first layer... then painted upon it......

We will see if it works.

you could try to fill up the engines with green stuff/miliput/etc.

Then you are able to paint nice engine flares.
