you can use these, I made them. I printed them on laminated paper and glued them together, pretty sturdy and shiny
Need help - any tips for remembering s-foils, etc., in tournaments?
I have tokens but I still forget them a lot of the time. I've tried placing the token on top of the dial, but you need to do that every time or it tells your opponent what you're planning to do.
The game in general is played way too fast for the amount of triggers happening, we really should step through each action much more carefully.
I think for system open I'm gong to write SFOILS on my hand, not sure that's even legal!

Due to my condition, I'm not a big fan of "lol memory match" aspects in the game anyways and will always let anyone flip it at anytime, regardless of casual or tournament play. It's a mini wargame; not a memory contest. FFG could have made these timings much more accommodating to be honest.
Not quite as simple as that though, since whether you get 2 or 3 attack dice can be vital, and not clear which one is best until you see where your ship has landed. Personally in a tournament I wouldn't let someone change them after making their move, and I'm probably the nicest opponent in the universe.

This. When you set your dial down put the token on top of the dial. You can get tokens f or lots of things like R2 units and C-3PO (which I leave on top of dice).
This is why I also insist people use crit tokens.
Use this next to your dial: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/623416415/x-wing-20-compatible-double-sided-s?ref=shop_home_active_2&crt=1
I use those but I still forget to flip it.
I think playing more slowly is the real answer, the game is played way too fast for all the stuff going on.
Edited by ayedubbleyooJust realize that your token is a reminder only, as in you still need to flip your cards. Someone being tournament strict could insist that your cards weren't flipped and be limited to the current card facing.
I've found nothing better than saying "s-foils" out loud before revealing the dial. The downside is that I say "s-foils" when I have ship which doesn't have "s-foils".
Got a friend who could never remember predator in 1.0. We conditioned him to say "attack with predator" whenever deciding who to attack. This confused opponents when he didn't have predator on a ship but he never missed the reroll when it was relevant.
This is a pretty good thread, I don't play X-wings, partially because every time I've tried I forget the s-foils.
Playing against people I think I've let almost everyone retro flip when it was obvious what they were going to do, even in tournaments because I know it's tough but if it's the final table with a Worlds invite on the line I wouldn't blame anyone for sticking to the rules.

Its legal. The question has come up before and been answered in the past. People used to right "R2-D2" and such on their hands.

I think you can't really let people change them after they land. The whole point of the design is that you have to consider what you want before you know your final position. That's why it's so annoying to forget it!

Every time I've let them change it, it was pretty obvious. There were times that my opponent was like "oh I should have closed them, darn" and I didn't offer to let them and fortunately I've never been asked in that situation.
Things I do:
Number my ships in a rough order of activation
Keep the dials by the pilot cards, not the ships
Place my dial on top of the S-Foil card so I'm forced to look at it before revealing my dial. It's less telling than putting the card on top of the dial or tokens.
Have back up plan in the off chance I DO forget to flip the card.
Keep the S-Foils on the model consistent with the card

^^^^^ This. And I always let my opponent know that the token takes precedence over the card.
