Anakin Skywalker, Nien Nunb ability and once per opportunity rule question

By tsondaboy, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Like the title suggests, how does the once per opportunity rule works with Anakin + R4-P17 or similarly with Nien and primed thrusters?

To be more specific, lets say either of them did a red maneuver.
Immediately after they completed it checked to see if there is an enemy ship at range 1 within their (V) but all enemy ships were beyond r1 (and out of the bullseye arc for Anakin).
If they then do a barrel roll granted by R4-P17 or primed thrusters, can they check again if there is now an enemy ship at range 1 inside their (V) or they have used their once per opportunity for this phase already (since they checked before doing the action) and remain stressed?

They have used their once per opportunity for the check. You'd have to change the order in which you performed them, so R4 happens first, then check for anakin as both have the same timing window.

I disagree with you: The wording for Anakin is After you fully execute a maneuver, if there is an enemy ship in your Icon arc standard frontat range 0-1 or in your Icon arc bullseye, you may spend 1 Icon force to remove 1 stress token.

So you cannot check after a barrel roll; BR is an action.

that's an understandable objection. he is right, how ever. both afterburners and anakins ability have the same timing and both are player effects, so you can put them into the ability queue in any order you prefer and resolve them one after the other. obviously, that's only useful if you resolve afterburners first and then anakins ability.

it's still perfectly legal since they have the same timing and both are player effects, though.

Anakin's ability and and R4-P17 both have the same timing, "after you fully execute a maneuver". The player can choose what order to use stuff that occurs within the same timing window, like how with Supernatural Luke can choose which order he flips his s-foil and uses SN. If you use R4-P17 to boost or barrel roll to put an opponent into the Anakin's arc requirements to meet the that part of the ability requirements it's still within the timing window of the ability.

I agree that Nien and primed thrusters scenario is a no go. Nien and pattern analyzer is an entirely different, and glorious, kettle of fish.
