Resistance Hyperspace Tryout List

By Cav Scout, in X-Wing Squad Lists

With a Hyperspace trial coming up soon, I am building lists for tryouts to see which list performs the best. Resistance squads have been my go to for past tournaments with a fair amount of success. RZ-2 A-Wings have been reliable because their capabilities match the way I like to fly, hit and run attacks using what I call the Thatch Weave to move in and out among opponents quickly. The Thatch Weave is named for U.S. Navy Commander John Thatch who developed the maneuver for two fighters to criss-cross against superior Japanese Zero formations. The below list uses Temmin to joust as much as possible to lure opponent formations. The A-Wings maneuver to flanking and rear positions to deliver proton rockets quickly to gain points. After the rockets are spent, continue maneuvering to advantageous attacks using crossfire from the front and the rear using the criss-cross maneuver to avoid enemy attacks as much as possible. The tactics have worked, but I wonder if using the proton rockets will give me an extra punch. Temmin's load out is designed to keep him dishing out punishment as long as possible while the A-Wings dance.

This next list adds another A-Wing for two lead/wingman formations with the Red Squadron Veteran providing distraction to opponent formations. It doesn't have the ordnance the above list has but does add ships, shields, and hulls for opponents to chew through during a match trying to catch A-Wings.

Of course I have the usual Talli, L'ulo, Nien, and Ello list I have flown before.

I uh, I almost want to be the boring one and say to go with the resistance 5s... its reliable and more my play style - I'm not a fan of Greer or Zari

I tried Greer, Zari and three Greens, all with Heroic and Advanced Optics last night and had a lot of fun. I actually like the two "lesser" A pilots because of their abilities.

Rotating as a free action, and taking an action after bumping, are both pretty cool.

4 a-wings and either Bastian or Jess is a better option than the Red sq. but the xaaaa archetype is a strong one.

I played the first list twice and the results were a disappointment. While all ships did what I expected them to and got damage, they couldn’t kill any opponet’s ships before they destroyed the A-Wings. In a third match, I realized I needed stronger ships when a Rebel list of two B-Wings, an A-Wing, and a U-Wing an Imperial list of two TIE fighters (destroyed), a TIE Bomber (destroyed), and a VT-49 Decimator (lost shields but did not get to half points) that found ways to role defense dice each time I attacked it. My losses were the U-Wing and half points on a B-Wing.

I will now try a couple of variations of this list in next week’s matches.

Rebel Rouge Scouts

(47) Braylen Stramm [A/SF-01 B-wing]
(2) Tractor Beam
(0) Jamming Beam
(1) Crack Shot
Points: 50

(46) Ten Numb [A/SF-01 B-wing]
(2) Tractor Beam
(0) Jamming Beam
(1) Crack Shot
Points: 49

(34) Arvel Crynyd [RZ-1 A-wing]
(7) Proton Rockets
(1) Crack Shot
(3) Intimidation
Points: 45

(43) Partisan Renegade [UT-60D U-wing]
(0) Pivot Wing
(2) Leia Organa
(2) Tactical Officer
Points: 47

Total points: 191

I may swap out the Jamming Beam for Heavy Laser Cannon on the B-Wings and Cluster Missles for the Proton Rockets on the A-Wing. It will only cost me six more points to bring my total to 197.
