Creature Trooper Commanders

By TauntaunScout, in Star Wars: Legion

Momentarily leaving aside the next Imperial corps as having too many variables, and running on the potentially fatal assumption that dewbacks are the next Imperial support... I kinda hope the following wave is creature trooper commanders. Maybe Capt. Terro, and Luke or Han or a generic commander on a tauntaun.

It would make creatures a very firmly nailed down category of model/unit for SW:L. Droids are pretty well added now, between the specialists and a whole faction of droids announced. There's lots of vehicles now too.

Discuss.

Bonus Topic: Star Wars is now older than classic 1950's "hot rods and diners and Marylin Monroe" culture was when Kenner ended the original figure line at the end of 1985. Any given 50's thing is roughly 30 years prior to any given Kenner SW thing: any given Kenner SW thing is now at least 34 years old. Star Wars itself of course being over 40.

Also when Rogue Trader: Warhammer 40,000 first hit the stores, Elvis had been dead for 10 years, while Jailhouse Rock had been released 30 years prior. W:40k is 32 years old now. 40k is older than Elvis was when 40k came out. For those of us who grew up viewing Elvis and Marylin as icons of a mythical ancient past civilization, this may be somewhat unsettling.

We had vehicles first tho.

Luke & Leia commanders on Speederbikes before Han Yolo on a Tauntaun

It's not about the rank of commander. It's about number of units. 3 vehicles is a lot more than 1 creature, per side. I only say commadners cause they're liable to follow a wave of corps/support if it goes more or less how the first year went.

The most cost effective way to release vehicle commanders would be to print pilot cards that turn an ordinary vehicle into a commander!

I wonder what Tauntaun sausage tastes like 🤔

Vehicles have significantly more issues caused by allowing them to be commanders than Creature Troopers in part because vehicles have not Courage value, so allowing for Vehicle Commanders would require more special rules than Creature Commanders who already have a Courage value.

I firmly believe we will see commanders on creatures, even commanders on vehicles.

However, I think we will see this show up in the clone wars before the galactic civil war era. The reasoning is that there are so many Separatist generals and commanders that ride in the AAT.

Perhaps it will just be the tank that can carry a commander, but, it would be interesting nonetheless. Mechanics wise, you could always have the vehicle have a morale value, and the commander will just retreat in his tank allowing his troops to die (totally a separatist thing to do)

Perhaps we will get a modular hatch on the AAT that either lets you stand a commanders mini in it (which would be awesome), or certain commanders will come with a torso ‘plug’ to swap out the regular hatch on it. But likely none of this.

🤞 I hope we see this. I feel like the precedent has been set by runewars. Their commanders generally release as a 2 pack mounted and on foot.

I'm almost certain we'll see creature trooper commanders, if only to get Cham Syndulla on a Blurrg!

Meanwhile, I'm over here with my avocado toast and student loans feeling old because The Phantom Menace came out 20 years ago.

I think creature commanders would be a cool way to mix things up. I would really only want it to be reserved for certain commanders though (Cham Syndulla being a good example)

I've heard it's best to smoke tauntaun sausage to mask the foul odor.

They made one for SW:IA though so it doesn't seem crazy to use that one.

I have no idea who this person is or why it makes more sense for them to ride a creature than the alternatives that have graced the long history of the several SW minis games.

I know you probably don't really care, but Cham Syndulla led the resistance on Ryloth against first the CIS, then later the Empire. Also the father of Hera Syndulla, one of the main characters of Rebels. His mount is a "Blurrg," which first appeared in the 1985 made for tv movie "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor."

That is because you choose to remain ignorant if these characters.

Cham Syndulla was a Ryloth freedom fighter, that fought separatists, and once almost planned an assassination of Emperor palpatine. He rode a bluurg, a lizard like creature from Ryloth into battle. He also was father to Hera Syndulla captain of the Ghost, and later rebel general.

Yes, give me Captain Terro, on a dewback, with his flamer!

Han Yolo can ride a speeder, by Luke on a tauntaun I can see ... just as soon as we get the Wampa and Imperial Wampa Tamer expansion.

(I recommend the dewback fritters over the tauntaun sausage, but the best is rancor tenderloin. It bites back.)

Ynfortunately the AAT (arguably the most iconic Clone Wars vehicle) is pretty much too large for Legion. It's longer and wider than the huge oval tank base. I don't know how they'd fit it in the game unless they outright shrunk it. The other iconic CLone Wars vehicle that everyone wants (the LAAT) is even bigger, roughly AT-AT sized.

Since we got a general as an upgrade card to a vehicle, I don't think we'll see a named captain on a dewback as a standalone commander. But Luke or Han on Tauntauns is pretty plausible.

They did shrink down the AT-ST and Speeder a bit to fit the game.

Except that they didn't,

Image result for luke snowspeeder

The snow speeders are tiny compared to starfighters

Image result for at st chewbacca

This is also the right size for the AT-ST if you compare the top hatch to one of your trooper models.

I agree that a lot of the beloved clone wars vehicles are just too big for Legion

There is the option of making them.. grand army scale.

Nope, those are both exactly to scale. The Aripseeder in particualr is just tiny.

Fair. But. That does nothing to convince me that he’s the only sensible choice. That statement still seems a bit extreme.

To the extent that most people “choose” to remain ignorant of the Greek language or the history of Lithuania, yes I do. There is too much stuff for everyone to follow everything.

I wonder what Ziewback Scout thinks. She always has interesting and informed opinions on food.

When I think Creature Trooper commanders this is honestly the first that springs to mind, followed by Han and Luke on Tauntaun.
