Grappling Struts are doing my head in 😂

I can work out how to get onto an asteroid and how to get off it - and even how to turn on it.

But ........ can I shoot while sitting on the asteroid and if not why not !!!!!

If I cannot shoot - I cannot see much reason for them or am I missing something very obvious - hence is it a silly question 😂

You can shoot; you ignore them so not only do you shoot, but you aren’t considered as obstructed if you shoot through the one you’re on (But it is obstructed if you’re shot at through it.)

To be more clear, when it says "You ignore obstacles at range 0 " it means YOU ignore the Effects of obstacles at range 0. All effects, and Only you.

One of the effects of being at range 0 of an asteroid is "The ship cannot perform attacks." You ignore that. One of the effects of shooting though an asteroid is the defender gains an additional defense die. You ignore that.

However, since only You are ignoring the effects, anyone shooting you, still gives you a defense die bonus. Because the effect is from them, not from you. and they are not ignoring the effects from it.

Thanks - sometimes wish FFG wrote things simply but I am sure the designer knew what was saying and the crucial words are in the first sentence "You ignore obstacles .....". Thanks again guys

The effects of Asteroids (and debris) can be found in the Rules Reference on page 13 and are all ignored while at range 0 with Grappling Struts (Open).

They have to be careful as writing things "simply" tends to be too vague and leave way too much room for interpretation, causing all kinds of rules debates. Even with that, they dont always get their wording clear enough as loophole hunters are always looking for an edge or a.... well.. loophole.
