Pneumatic Fist

By MrTInce, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I like the repulsor fist cybernetic but wished there were more options for weapon based cybernetics.

I came up with the Pneumatic Fist with the following stats, the idea of a repeating punching item.

Quote

Skill: Brawl, Dam: 7, Crit: 4, Range: Engaged, Price: 6000, Rarity 8.

Special: Autofire, Cumbersome 4, Concussive 2

If 3 threats are rolled it runs out of power, if a Despair is rolled it overheats and inflicts 5 wounds on wielder and must cool down for 2 turns before it can be used again.

Is this too powerful? Too nerfed?

Only if the PC's head goes flying up if he rolls a despair

Auto-fire on a fist weapon? Highly abusable, but not necessarily broken.

Concussive 2 on a weapon without Slow-Firing is totally broken.

If you get Brawn 4, that’s 11 damage, and you’re probably going to be able to hit two or three times, especially if you have a few ranks in Brawl. Not to mention, because you’ve invested in Brawn, you’re also going to be very hard to kill. Toss on a concussive 2, and you’re pretty OP.

For the price, I think it’s a fair stat block- at 6K for a Brawl/Melee weapon, it should be the premier choice for a Brawl/Melee build. That being said, I would tone down both the price and the stat block. Make it match other Melee weapons both in terms of cost and effectiveness.

It's not plus 7 it's a straight 7 (like the repulsor fist). The Concussive 2 was cause it was a metal fist. Maybe disorient might be better.

Concussive by itself is acceptable. That being said, making your opponent unable to attack you for two turns by spending 2 Advantages is a bit much. Just lower it to 1 and you're set. Otherwise, this has a good mix of really good abilities and acceptable drawbacks (the Critical rating and the empty/overheat properties).

It's not a +7 weapon. It's a 7 weapon. So the damage is always successes rolled on top of the 7. Brawn rating doesn't enter into it, that's just for the skill of hitting.

I'd probably make it linked instead of autofire for a melee weapon

Both have multi attack but autofire allows multiple targets, linked hits the same target, if you want the increased difficulty that comes with autofire (that linked does not have) just put a special rule on it "uncontrollable: increase difficulty by 1 when using this feature"

Good shout on the linked quality, I forgot autofire can targets mulitiple foes.

Yeah definitely Linked, and depending on how the thing actually works maybe even add in slow-firing 1 to represent it has to re-cock after a Hit but can still hit twice.

Concussive could be an add-on if they use a different kind of power source (I'm thinking the Fallout-type Powerfist here).
