Buying Recomendations

By Cusm, in Star Wars: Legion

After looking at the game forever I bought a used lot this week. It has quite a bit, but I will need more especially if my son wants to play as well. I will not be playing in tournaments so I do not need 5 packs of anything, but I would like more options. I rather be diversified vs having 12 units of Stormtroopers/whatever only.

The lot I bought has 1x Core, Stormtroopers, Speeder Bikes, AT-ST, Veers, E-Web, Imperial Specialist, Boba Fett, T-47 and Han. I lean to Imperial side so my first buys will be Scout Troopers (my favorite trooper), Snow Troopers and Death Troopers. For the rebels I want the Commandos and Pathfinders. I am also thinking of a second coreto boost our options. What are everyone's recommendations for additional units?

You have most of what is available for the imperial side, beyond royal guard and palp, will have the full range. For rebels, troops are a big piece of their lists, more rebel troopers for sure as 2 won't really cut it with minimum being 3 units (for standard point games). You can go fleet troopers if you don't like rebel troopers and in 2 months veteran troops come out (hoth outfit guys). Leia is fun support as is Jyn, but not needed.

A second core will give you those rebel forces you need but sounds like the imperial side wouldn't be much of a help. However more templates and dice is big plus when supplying components to two players.

Fleets are nice to have.

A second core is the best option then yes. I'd buy that next. You'll want the dice and stuff from two boxes regardless as the game truly doesn't come with enough dice. You do have more than enough imperial stuff to play but not really enough rebel stuff at all. A second core set will give your imperials lots of room to play around, and more than enough rebels to play. It'll solve all your problems for home games with friends and relatives.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention this lot had extra dice, templates, but there is someone local with an core for dirt cheap I'll try and snag. My favorite Rebels were the Endor troops so the Commandos are also high on my list.

You do need at least 1 more rebel core to meet the minimum 3 for a legal lists sounds like. If you are considering another core you'll be well covered there.

Just buy all of it, immediately . Or sooner.

That would be the plan, but the wife and bank account would have issues.

I’d look at another rebel trooper unit and a commando unit or two. Leia is a solid commander as well.

I would be tempted to buy up some rebel veterans in a few months when it comes out. :)

Sell a kidney, you have two for a reason

I don't know entirely what you have and don't or how many of any given imperial unit, though I would strongly say to design an army and proxy what you don't have and play it against a lot of different armies imperial or rebel soon to be clones wars factions too while playing several different combos of the condition/deployment/objective cards to figure out what works best for you. There is no right or wrong answer, yet upon doing that will you figure things out more clearly. Hopefully that info helps you out.

If I may piggyback on this thread... I’m probably going to split a core set with a buddy soon, I’ll take Rebels he’ll take Imperials.

I’ll probably pick up Wookiees pretty quick because they’re just cool, but of the other trooper types, which would be best to get first for variety in play style? (And I’ll probably get a pack of generic troopers to fulfill the 3-per-Squad minimum—I know Fleet Troopers give variety there but I like the aesthetic of generics better. Or I might wait for the veterans.)

Well, for corps slot units your choices are generic troopers, fleets, or vets. That’s the 3 unit minimum. The others won’t count towards it.

I would have 3x generic troopers for sure. I’d personally wait on veterans unless you want to play the cqb heavy fleets.

For SF, I think commandos are a must. They offer multiple play styles all in the same box, because they can be run as a full squad, a squad with a heavy weapon (which each play very differently - bomb layer or sniper), or a strike team (2 minis, the heavy weapon guy and a buddy). So much variety in one box, plus they give you the stuff you need so you can field one strike team plus one squad in the same single box.

Pathfinders look cool for infiltrate shenanigans but are more one-trick pony I think. Less variety in the box.

Cool, might wait for Vets for my 3rd Corps slot then, and just get Wookiees and Commandos in the meantime. I’ll just be playing fairly casual for a bit so I won’t need the 3rd Corps immediately. Thanks for the input!

What you may find as you list build is you want more than 3 corps units in a list. You may not need it now, but you may get to that point. :)

Just because the minimum is 3 doesn’t mean that’s where you want to be in the end.

(full disclosure - my Rebels only have 3x corps trooper units. I’m waiting for vets, but planning 1-2 of them. I have 3x storm and 2x snow for empire though)

Wookies and commandos are very different in focus. If you only get one box of each however you can fill you Special Forces slots, so that plus 3 corps will be flexible.

Right... that’s the plan....

*hides two more boxes of Wookiees* 🙄

Definitely get a card upgrade pack once they come out
