ESC Question

Why it didn't just give a white reload action I'm not sure. Possibly just to avoid giving the Hyena a white reload

Basically this. Limiting the ability to reload to just the ESCs. If it just said Action: Reload, people would think they could reload discord missiles with it or something. The way people were saying they can use Elusive to get charges back on ordnance.

Answer: Yes, it gives you a disarm token just like a regular reload action because FFG said so on their stream.

Reasoning: I assume it was intended to make sure the ESC didn't just give the ship using it a white reload action so it couldn't reload anything except the ESCs.

Also: yes, this question has already been raised in the X-Wing Rules Questions forum . Especially good answers, explanations, and points were made. Within half a page it was settled that FFG technical writing is sloppy, but this particular ruling should be clear.

Thanks all!

I was not expecting this many answers.

So it does appear that you do gain a disarm token.

Where else does your idea of a reload come from if not the passage that's quoted several times in this thread? That part is the ONLY place for a reload, action or not. You can't just do parts of it because you'd like to.

This is the crux of it. People that keep trying to say that you don't follow all the steps of the "Reload" entry in the Rules Reference since its not a Reload action :

What else does "Action: Reload this Card" mean? Please cite the page and section that you are pulling your answer from.

Nowhere else in the rules does it reference what to do when you are Reloading except the steps in that section. Nowhere else does it instruct you to recover a charge on the card. It either follows the steps in the Reload rules entry, or it does nothing at all because there are no other rules for it.

Secondly, there is existing precedent for this following the steps under the Reload section. The Barrel Roll entry follows the same phrasing (Rules Reference Pg 5) :

Quote

BARREL ROLL (Icon)

Pilots can barrel roll to move their ship laterally and adjust their position. When a small ship performs a (BR Icon) action, it follows these steps:

Quote

RELOAD (Icon)

Pilots can reload to rearm ordnance tubes by moving around ammo on their ship. When a ship performs the (Reload Icon) action, it reloads by performing the following steps:

Now, as we know, there are well established ways to perform a Barrel Roll without performing a Barrel Roll action , such as when you Decloak or acquire a Tractor Beam token, both which explicitly call out the only differences in the Barrel Roll process in their own rules. Otherwise...

You follow the same steps.

Gotcha, sorry. I was under the impression you were already in agreement by that point and were continuing the question for sources, possibly to show a third party who did still need convincing.

No, I don't mind.

At our games this past week, we played it as if you don't get a disarm token, and I wanted to make sure.

All's good!

It would have helped if they...added that you also get a disarm token.

Not really. If the card had explicitly said to gain a Disarm token, it would just shift the argument from, "Do I gain a Disarm token or not?" to, "Do I gain one Disarm token or two?"
