Finished Jyn Erso and two squads of Rebel Pathfinders

By Kingsguard, in Painting

Still a few touchups and clearocating to go but the painting is done! I tried experimenting with a brown wash for the first time. I also tried painting the whites of the eyes on some of them after being inspired by somebody else here's work and I think it turned out pretty well. Not as hard as I thought. What's everybody think?

very crisp base coating, nice.

IMO it would be easy for you to go a step further and highlight a bit and really make em stand out.

Nice job all around. A solid looking squad and very sharp painting

Very nice!!

Hmm, maybe. I don't really have enough paint colors though to have a slightly brighter version of every color I used.

you can brighten the tones just by adding a little white to the original base tones you used

Hmm, maybe I could try experimenting a bit with that then.

Yeah, it's what I do, and I usually add a very small amount of white, like, a single drop, and then see how much lighter the tone is, then build up to even lighter if I wish

When I say you can make hem even better easily...I say it because your basic painting skill is very good. A Very nice smooth/crisp base coat.

A lot of painting.. is knowing/learning techniques. Now you have progressed onto washes, the next logical step as others have noted is highlights. Again as noted, a very effective/cheap way is to just add a very little white (my advise would be have some base coat..drop some white to the side...mix in a bit....you can always add more if its not light enough.

Focus on the main raised areas....even 1 lighter highlight makes a huge difference...then if you want to (or have the time to ;]) you can do more layers....but its not necessary.
