Fun Idea what if fleet command upgrades were generic commander abilities?

A random idea popped into my head today when thinking about the 200 point games coming with the new expansion box and the custom commanders they mentioned. What if there was a generic unnamed commander whos' abilities were the fleet commands cards.

Example "Imperial Commander" "At the start of the ship phase, you may spend a consecrate fire token. If you do, until the end of the round, while each friendly ship is attacking a ship, it may change 1 die to a hit icon and no other icons." and with that keep it the same cost as a fleet command.

I know this would make actual ships that use fleet commands not as needed but could be a possible way for a generic commander for smaller games.

Been suggested several times, stev. Hopefully FFG is paying attention šŸ™‚

Why would imperials piss away the commander slot when they can do Chimaera+command for 9-10 points? Or just run a Cymoon?

Rebels on the other hand, could theoretically use this idea. Still, I’d rather just see a Chimaera-like title for the Hone One class.

EDIT: I do like a generic commander idea, but Imps have gotten enough from the Chimaera to make this suggestion moot

At 200 points, once you have an ISD and a commander, you don't have much room for much else.

How about a generic commander that gets to choose any 1 non-unique upgrade card. That upgrade card is now considered attached to all ships in the fleet. The commanders value is the total of all those cards. When the commander is defeated, that upgrade goes away.

I'm certain this is game breaking, but would be fun to try.

But in all seriousness, it would offer some fun options and choices. I'm going to play a few rounds of this and see what I get with different combinations.
