Hey so I'm pretty new to Dark Heresy but have played a lot of Dawn of War. We just made characters and I was wondering something. The space marines in dawn of war that use heavy bolters have that backpack that feeds ammo to the gun. Has something akin to that been stated out for dark heresy?
Quick question from a new player
probably not to the access an acolyte like yourself, it takes some advanced tech for that i believe, from what i could tell they have a drum feed system

Really? Sweet must have missed that. Where does it say it?

According to the RAW in the Dark Heresy core book, there is no statted Backpack for Heavy Bolters. However, if you take a look at page 135 of RT, you'll find what you're looking for.

Quick rule of the house for backpack ammo: roll a 100 in the BS test to be out of ammo (and luck! XD). You can spend a Fate Point to re-roll, for the purpose of determining if you really got out of ammo or it was just the "normal" stuff that happens when you roll a 100.
Of course, the GM can overrule this if it's, for example, the first roll since you picked the weapon from your armoury... Also, Good Quality backpacks carry extra ammo (better distributed, better feed, etc...) that allows to ignore the first 100 as an "out of ammo" once between visits to armouries.
Ascension and Rogue Trader have rules for backpack ammo packs. If a description mentions a backpack then they have a backpack. Just saying belt fed is often different.
Heavy weapon ammo belts come in boxes which may or may not attatch to the weapon itself. This is why many heavy weapons are used in two man teams by normal humans, at least, a gunner and a loader. Belt fed is ammunition fed through on a belt, as opposed to a spring as in a clip. See a belt fed heavy bolter here .

And I'll go one better for Belt Fed Heavy Bolter ;-)

Oh that guy has the "rambo belt" of seemingly 30 rounds that somehow lasts the whole combat. Those gotta be expensive!

The Mechanicus are true wizards of their craft able to preform esoteric engineering marvels we poor unenlightened shall never be able to comprehend ;-)
Partly that and partly because there's always a guy stood behind him lugging around the rest of the ammo.
