Tourism on Rakata Prime

By GMPercy, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey everyone, what do you think one might find on Rakata Prime?

Other than destroyed bits of the Star Forge and lots of interesting and foreign species, I’m curious as to what leftovers of Rakatan civilization might be found.

I like including Rakatan stuff in my campaigns. There is so little lore on them that I feel freedom to add color to the gray areas which gives a new kick to Star Wars fluff that people don’t expect.

If you want to hear my current take, you can check out our podcast at wellthatdidntwork.podbean.com and look for the Survival story arc!

I started a new arc in the Unknown Regions, so far I have on Rakata Prime-

Temple of the Ancients- has a shielding that you can't pass unless you are Rakata or Revan.

Jedi researchers abandoned post (pre New Sith Wars)- used the basis of Echoes of the Past adventure.

Rakata mutants villages platu- three different tribes, each lost its "shaman" long ago, which holds the history and the secrets for reproduction, and a fourth far tribe that still has its shaman.

Near by space- https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Rakatan_Archipelago and the debris clouds from the war around rakata prime and adjacent systems.

I also used the chiss expeditionary fleet as a loosely based alliance with other Unknown Regions species, who guard that no one will mess with the secluded nature of the rakata or their ruined tech.

If you are looking for adventure hooks there are some sources.

Knight of the Old Republic: The Rakata were introduced in this old video game, I think. It is my all time favorite video game, and I guess you can find some videos on the net to see what happened on Lehon.

You can find some background information in the accompanying saga source book, but I am not totally sure from the top of my head.

There are some Rakata related missions in the MMO The Old Republic. I remember one facility on Tatooine. But I stopped playing a long time ago. Again, I think, you can find video walkthroughs about said missions on the net.

If I remember correctly there was a Darkhorse (?) series of comics from a couple of years ago which had the Rakata as main antagonists. The story was very good, and you can find a lot of hooks in there.

I am sorry that I can only give you sources and can't be more specific, but it is a long time ago I played the games or read the books.

Rancor hunting

There is a later series of Missions on Rakata Prime in SWTOR; most of it was a tropical world, with blue water and white sandy beaches....littered with ancient rusting

hulks of crashed starships.

Do the Rakatans still eat people?

As I think they are extinct I doubt it...and generally I think they just drained the Force from them, not actually eat them. But I'd have to go look it up on Wookieepedia to be sure.

Corrected. Thank You.

ROFL...I just realized we're both using the same Avatar.

...and now I want to do a story/adventure where its a bunch of Gand on an "Adventure" that strains their natural politeness to its limits...8D

The Rataka on Lehon died out completely in 1000 BBY. That being said, yes, they did eat people they slew in battle, even resorting to cannibalism . However, there were some (more enlightened) Rakata, namely the Elders tribe, who had left Lehon following the destruction of the Star Forge, and joined the galactic community at large. Their decendents may still exist on other colony worlds.

And there you have it...Definite Carnivores (Is it really cannibalism if it isn't your own species?) and possibly alive, up to the GM of any given game.

No, it isn't. However, they did often eat their own kind as well.

Okay then so def Cannibals AND Carnivores...8P

Yeah the Rakata were pretty much unlikable through and through...

"We need to power our Force-powered Warp-gates, what do we use for a power source?"

"Lets enslave every Force-sensitive we can find, mash them up and drain their essence!"

"Great idea, but will it work?"

"Dunno, but their screams are most satisfying."

"Good enough for me!"

So, should I mention the campaign I was in that had derailed to the point that we had just way too much money than anyone should, and - long story short - I ended up taking ownership of Rakata Prime/Lehon and building a luxury resort there, and cornering the galaxy's market on products made from rum fruit found only on the world?

The beaches are nice I guess, but the hotels on Glee Anselm are better and it's so much easier to get to, which makes up for it being slightly more expensive.

But I guess Rakata Prime is less of a tourist trap if that's your thing.

Maybe for "Dark Tourists"

"Hey, lets go visit all the places where the Dark Side is strong!"

...wait, thats a great plot for a Smuggler-type campaign. Get hired to ferry around some rich creep who wants to collect Sith artifacts and visit their former places of power...hmmm...

"I dont know anything about any sith lord in the passenger cabin, all I know is about the paying customer in the passenger cabin."

"pays good, just don't look to close at him or ask questions about the noises coming from the cabin..."

I had my players find some old hyperspace coordinates for Lehon and when they arrive they discovered that the planetary ion field thing was active again and crashed onto the planet. Since things like the infinite engine were able to grow from tiny fragments I decided that a lot of Rakatan technology probably had similar self repair systems so the planet is crawling with the old Star Forge droids.

The players find a crashed Munificent and the inside is swarming with Separatist droid 'corpses' and the active Star Forge droids. They also find a single B1 battle droid with one arm taking shelter in the ruined bridge with the door sealed and running on emergency power. This B1's code glitched enough to give it proper sentience and it betrayed the droid crew mid flight. In the process it messed up the hyperdrive and caused the ship to hyperspace towards Lehon, being torn out by the planet's gravity well and then being knocked out by the ion field. After crashing B1 killed the rest on the bridge and then locked the room down as the Star Forge droids began attacking the ship and killing all the other droids and crew members.

The party can rescue B1 if they want and have him as an ally before going to the Temple of the Ancients to deactivate the field and then using the spare parts of the Munificent to repair their ship and leave. My players turned the temple into a new home base for their growing merc organization.
