AGOT LCG player looking at getting in W:I

By Jux69, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Hi guys. I am currently playing AGOT LCG and loving it. With FFG's LCG model making their card games relatively cheap I am also thinking of playing W:I. too. The Warhammer Universe is just too cool to not be drawn in.

I was thinking of getting one copy of the core set and one copy of Assault on Ulthuan to get the six core decks. I want to start casually with W:I as I am playing AGOT competitively (3 copies of every card) and if I like it, I may look at getting battle packs and multiples of every card. I was wondering how the balance is with the six core decks? Are there any battlepacks that I must get to balance out the core decks?

I understand I need three of every card just like AGOT to build decks and be competitive but I just wanted to start this game causally to get a good feel for it and get my AGOT friends into the game.

Thanks

You will get way more than your moneys worth out of just casual play, if my initial experience is anything to go by.

With 1x coreset and 1x AoU, I would think the balance would be ok while you're learning, although Orcs are a bit too good. Honestly, when you're just figuring the game out, play mistakes will make more of a difference than your deck, since WH:I has a fair amount of play decisions, so I wouldn't worry too much about balance.

I agree with Clamatius. Orcs will seem powerful. And making mistakes was the game decider when I had just the core. As the decks seemed balanced. As for specific battlepacks. I haven't seen one where I thought I could use a card for every deck in a specific pack.

Thanks for the replies guys. I see that this game is currently 2 players only. Are there any good multi-player variants you guys are using at the moment for 2v2 and FFA?

Honestly I think the game is more balanced using the core sets than it is if you add in the battle packs. The Skaven cards definitely push the destruction side ahead of the order side.

I have played some multiplayer matches using the normal rules and it is pretty fun. It would be really cool if they came out with something like what they have for thrones though.

Early on I got the coreset 2x just for a good starterpool. But it's no longer necessary with all that is out. I bought every battlepack and Ulthuan only 1x and it's hardly a handicap. Especially since only one bp is left before a new cycle begins which will have cards in it in such a way that you only need one bp to have the maximum of each card.

So yeah WH:I is cost efficient and collectable even for the less funding strong players.
It's also tons of fun. Only played about 10 games or so so far. But I found them all highly entertaining. (been around since the start)

And for casual play you don't need a lot of players around just a friend or someone who you can borrow a deck of yours when you play against him.

I'm a bit disappointed by the developpement of WH:I. It started out to be fun and entertaining, with games that where offered many in-game choices to define to which zone a card should be played to get the best of it, and which units should defend for "long-term" benefit. But as more cards are released, the game shift into a brainless "fire at will", where your goal is to kill outside of combat as much units as possible while preventing your opponent doing the same. I simply can't remember when was the last time I defended against an attack corazon_roto.gif . I'm missing those interesting in-game choices. I hope the game will revert back to what made it original in the first place.

So, like Vitamin T, I would advice you to buy only 2 Core Set. That will allow you to build interesting and balanced decks against each other. You can add in 1 Ulthuan expansion set if you want to play with the Elves.

Yeah well the store is quite a while away, bar my brother I only know one other WH:I player.
Plus I also play other games like WH40K.
