What Separatist lists are working for you?

By Naerytar, in X-Wing

I've had medium success with this list:

Quote

Darth Maul (65)
Hate (3)
General Grievous (3)
Count Dooku (9)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)
Total: 200

It mostly comes down to range control and whether the first engagement takes place at R3 or not.

What lists are working for you?

The pattern I've noticed was More Vultures = More Success. The Space Invaders list is, so far, the only CIS list where, regardless of matchup, I always feel like the fight is winnable if the correct decisions are made:

6x Separatist Drones with Energy Shells

2x Separatist Drones

Yeah that's the strongest Separatist list I've encountered so far. Probe and Buzz droids were pretty weak when I encountered them. Maul is really good though, and the droid fighters die quickly, but are cheap enough to make up for it.

Do you see value in upgrading a Separatist Drone to DFS-311, or do you prefer the bid to secure initiative?

The list relies on a close formation and it's rarely super relevant where a specific calculate is.

I have played a few games in the last 2 game nights and I have to say that I like having more Vulture Droids and that ESC is great. I've found that I prefer to have Separatist Droids at I3 as when it does make a big difference, it makes a huge difference. Generic Jedi tend to want to go 2nd at Init 3 to arc dodge, but I usually have enough guys on the table to get shots on them if they still try to have shots, themselves.

I've only played one game that included something other than a Vulture droid, and it was Wat Tambor. It was OK, but I didn't take ESC for the droids and was trying the limited guys (non-unique limited). I will say that the points for Precision Hunter and Haor Chull are not worth it in my opinion. I'll have to try messing around with the Wat list to see if I can improve on it. I have a revamp that I think will be the next one to try:

Wat Tambor (43)
K2-B4 (5)
Impervium Plating (6)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Total: 200

I found Kraken was good, but my Droids were one shot too often. With fewer Droids, I think I would want K2-B4 to keep them alive longer.

After my first few games, I did come up with a list I really wanted to try, but need to get an 8th Vulture. My LGS was sold out last night. I posted in a number of forums online here and found a number of people came up with the exact list:

The Ocho

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

DFS-311: Butterbot (24)

Trade Federation Drone (20)
Total: 200

One Trade Fed for blocking. Butterbot can pass the butter, I mean Calc tokens to those that need it. That part is good with Gas Clouds around and not caring about them at times. I have not gotten to try it myself, but others have reported good success.

Since I couldn't try the list, I went back to what I had the first week, but tweaked it a bit to have Buzz Droids. I also thought a lot more about Grappling Struts and how to use them. The first night I had just used them as a "just in case", but found it really hard to think about actually landing on rocks. There were a number of times when I could've just landed on them and been fine, but was still trying to dodge them. It is hard to remove 7 years of training to think of it being OK to land on them. I have been trying to think of not just OK to land on them, but actually using them in strategies.

Separatist Drone (22)
Discord Missiles (6)
Grappling Struts (3)

Trade Federation Drone (20)

Grappling Struts (3)

Separatist Drone (22)

Grappling Struts (3)

Separatist Drone (22)
Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Separatist Drone (22)

Energy-Shell Charges (4)

Trade Federation Drone (20)

Total: 199

I played against 3 Jedi (Anakin and 2 generics) and they were very nervous of the Buzz Droids. Even early on I BR'ed because I forgot I can land on an asteroid and it left me without any tokens at R3 to 2 beefed up Jedi. I lost a Buzz Droid Vulture, but took out 3 shield of the Jedi. The game had a lot of Jedi trying to get shots on lone Droids and me trying to get shots on the Jedi. I did manage to get Buzz Droids on Anakin, but it just took out his lone shield before he BR'ed off. The Jedi were good at one shotting the Vultures (especially the beefed up ones), but I started to get my hits in. In the end, I had 2 Vultures with 1 hull each Grappled onto an asteroid that were sitting and rotating around as the last Jedi tried to approach without getting shot or hitting the buzz droids floating around. In the end, I got him.

If I can't get my 8th Vulture, I'll swap the Buzz Droids back to ESC and make sure all I3's have Grapplers. I really think you can exploit them well enough if you can get used to it.

So.....yeah, my basic strategy has been lots of I3 Droids with Energy-Shell Charges.

This has worked for me pretty well.

Sith Infiltrator stays cloaked and blocks the enemy formation while the vultures move in and attack. Grievous, the coward that he is, strikes from the side. That Infiltrator is surprisingly durable with three green dice and ten health.

Think I'm going to move on to just small bases next. Those droids are fun.
