The card upgrade packs.

By That Blasted Samophlange, in Star Wars: Legion

It seems with all the excitement of the clone wars core set and expansions, it seems that discussion of this is being overshadowed.

The contents of this pack:

  • 5 Command Upgrade Cards
    • 1 Aggressive Tactics
    • 1 Commanding Presence
    • 1 Esteemed Leader
    • 1 Improvised Orders
    • 1 Strict Orders
  • 13 Comms Upgrade Cards
    • 2 Comms Jammer
    • 3 Comms Relay
    • 3 HQ Uplink
    • 3 Linked Targeting Array
    • 2 Long-Range Comlink
  • 5 Force Upgrade Cards
    • 1 Battle Meditation
    • 1 Force Guidance
    • 1 Force Push
    • 1 Force Reflexes
    • 1 Saber Throw
  • 16 Gear Upgrade Cards
    • 2 Electrobinoculars
    • 3 Emergency Stims
    • 3 Environmental Gear
    • 3 Grappling Hooks
    • 3 Recon Intel
    • 2 Targeting Scopes
  • 6 Grenade Upgrade Cards
    • 2 Concussion Grenades
    • 2 Fragmentation Grenades
    • 2 Impact Grenades
  • 15 Training Upgrade Cards
    • 3 Duck and Cover
    • 3 Endurance
    • 3 Hunter
    • 3 Overwatch
    • 3 Tenacity

Msrp of $13.50 ($9.99 usd) for 60 cards seems not too bad. Works out to just under 25 cents a card. As someone with a very limited gaming budget, who tries to play in some local tournaments, it is important to have actual cards. I mean for casual play, you can proxy the cards, sure, but having few options for some upgrades (training) for my scout troopers is difficult to build my army.

These give me a new avenue to list building, and for that I am thankful.

Making a card pack is the best news that has been put out for legion this year and I don't see that changing.

I'm very curious as to what Linked Targeting Array will end up doing

This just means that clone core will have different cards for the most part and this is a way to get caught up. I don't think anyone whose kept up with expansions ro this point eill need the majority of these. I think i have 3 of all of those except the un released cards and i usually just get 1 of each expansion

But, as I said, not everyone (like myself) IS all caught up.

Yeah, but this means that people like me who haven’t kept up with the expansions can get the cards! It’s a great move!!

Good call. These look great!

Should have included the generic vehicle drivers too.

It's a great move don't get me wrong. Especially coming from ffg, they normally love making cards hard to find in the right quantities

The vehicle drivers aren't truely generic though, they're faction locked. The upgrade pack is neutrals only.

Fifth Trooper confirmed you get two in the new expansion though of the non-unique ones.

This will be great for all the new players that get into the game this fall. Great move by FFG to get them up to speed.

Honestly, I think this is some of the best news. Not because of what is in this specific pack, but because it shows the future that you can indeed “keep up” without buying multiples of all the expansions.

I plan to buy one of these packs despite having a near complete Empire faction, so I can pick and choose, so I get the new Clone Wars era generic cards, and so I don’t feel the need to “all the things” on that Rebel cell I am building up.

No smoke grenades?

Well, it wouldn’t be ffg if they didn’t leave something out for you to have to buy a model... they’ve never been 100% perfect just slowly getting better

Smoke grenades either in the next card pack or with the next Corps

Eh, I'll agree it's a great move for those that haven't kept up, or don't intend to invest in CW releases. Doesn't really do much for me since I can't say I'm really missing any of these cards. I bought the Senate specifically so I had Improvised Orders. At most, this might impact how and what I buy in the future.

Agreed. I think it may be the release of the decade if you ask me. Card packs have been consistently requested for as long as mini games have had cards.

When this is released it will be in my ‘must buy’ category for new players, much like the specialists. A cheap way to get a good variety to a legal playable force.

Would have been nice to see reprints of the cards that have had RRG errata added, like Key Positions etc including in the pack.

I think on stream or discord, FFG said they'd be open to battle card packs as a seperate thing, that would include those types of errata.

Good news! It is coming... just with clones and droids! 😜

But, yes, it would have been nice to include them.

I am looking forward to this because now I can get the clone wars starter and I don't have to buy other model packs just to get upgrade cards

Exactly this. This would be the perfect opportunity. Otherwise, everyone who doesn’t buy a new core game still plays with the old, wrong cards.

You must have missed the new rebel corps and support announcements. Best Legion news of 2019 hands down. Maybe of the whole 2020’s too.

Genuine question: What is worse? Waiting for the tauntauns to be announced or now waiting to get your hands on as many of them as you can?

@TauntaunScout is waiting for a Hoth specific commander now...

A rebel one yes. I have two Imperial ones already.

But.

The rebel geenric paints up Ok...ish... for Hoth. And at someone's suggestion I poached an Atgar spotter and put him on a spare base to make an even more Hothic generic commander.
