What to do with Mace Windu

By j_man_04, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’m a little disappointed in Mace being i4. I feel like it’s a rough spot to be in if you’re looking to fly Aces but it’s still expensive like an Ace. One advantage though is it drives down the cost of SNR and his ability lets him gain a force back from SNR on red manauvers. At the end of the day, 3 force tokens gives you a lot to work with.

Here’s an attempt to place him alongside other I4s who have decent abilities albeit situational ones. I don’t *love* Palp on Wolffe, but he can coordainte a BR/TL to Kickback who can then dial up a blue to clear the stress. Or give Windu an evade or focus to keep from running out of Force tokens.

V-19 Torrent Starfighter - •“Kickback” - 38
•“Kickback” - Blue Four (36)

ARC-170 Starfighter - •“Wolffe” - 73
•“Wolffe” - CC-3636 (51)
Expert Handling (4)
•Chancellor Palpatine (14)
Veteran Tail Gunner (4)

Delta-7 Aethersprite - •Mace Windu - 89
•Mace Windu - Harsh Traditionalist (46)
•R4-P17 (5)
Afterburners (6)
Supernatural Reflexes (16)
Delta-7B (16)

I'm not sure either, but it feels like Mace should be good. Your Mace is super expensive but I don't think he has to be. I've not tried this but I'm just pairing him with ships I think could be good. I think I'd be looking to take the evade action pretty often. Three green dice with force and evade keeps stuff alive.

Delta-7 Aethersprite - •Anakin Skywalker - 70
•Anakin Skywalker - Hero of the Republic (60)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (10)

Delta-7 Aethersprite - •Mace Windu - 57
•Mace Windu - Harsh Traditionalist (46)
•R4-P17 (5)
Calibrated Laser Targeting (6)

ARC-170 Starfighter - •“Odd Ball” - 61
•“Odd Ball” - CC-2237 (55)
Crack Shot (1)
•R4-P44 (5)

He’s expensive but also incredibley tough to pin down. The goal is to keep dancing around the board. He’ll draw a ton of pressure off the others but he’s hopefully slippery enough to keep distance and stay alive. Looking at it now, while the actions after red moves are nice, R4 might be better to keep the dial open after red moves.

But pairing him with Ani isn’t bad as Ani will likely get more attention than Mace.

I'm not gonna lie, I think that Mace in a 7B, and just that, is perfectly viable.

He's just pleasantly efficient, albeit slightly expensive these days.

R4-P17 is dope too, especially with Spare Parts...but a lot of pilots like R4-P17.
