Clone Wars Unit Request & Speculation

Except, if I recall, it still had shields. Easier to see and easier to destroy are different things.

Correction: they didn’t have energy sheilds they just had stong frontal armour but no side armour which could be shown with the weakpoint keyword

If they did it in the actual show, it's thematic.

There's nothing stopping FFG giving them the Vibroblade as their melee weapon on the base unit card either.

Sniper droids were in the show as well. I concede the thematic point though, it seems there are two options for snipers. I still maintain that the commando droids as snipers is the lazy choice. That is not necessarily bad per se, but with commandos being very good in melee as well as infiltration, they seem to be a better fit elsewhere, in my opinion.

Fair enough, been a while since I saw the episode, but having a sniper with maybe, 3 health, no suppression, AND armour? That would be nasty in my opinion. Especially of said unit can move very rapidly to flank an enemy.

All in all, making commando droids just like the rebel commandos is not only lazy, but not thematic - they were brutal in close combat - the squad leader even carries a vibro blade. Why not hit both gameplay mechanics AND thematics? Just because we have recieves the symmetry so far, I do not expect it for the clone wars era.

Like Indy_com said, if they did it in the show, it's thematic. Technically only commando droid captains carry vibroswords in combat, so the way they could represent that is by giving the standard unit a Heavy Weapons upgrade of a Commando Captain that would bring on its own melee weapon. As to the shield argument, even if their shields regenerate, they're still taking pins which are detrimental to their role as solo units.

So I'm brand new to Legion. Hopping over here from X-Wing for a bit after demoing at Adepticon (witnessing the Clone Wars Core announcement live didn't hurt), but is there any chance for amphibious abilities to be added to the game? I know I saw rivers are rough terrain and other water is impassible for any ground troops/vehicles, so if nothing else Gungans, Aquatic Battle Droids, and--most importantly--Kit Fisto could all ignore that difficulty, yeah?

I think it could be really cool, but I also don't have any idea how imbalanced this could make the game, especially since it would be more difficult to bring a similar trooper to the Empire (Rebels could bring Mon Cala troops at least).

Terrain in Legion is player defined, so there isn't really anyway to have units be specifically immune to certain terrain restrictions without that ability being unused in 90% of games.

I agree, but it would be cool to see Aquatic Battle Droids and Mon Cala. Hard pass on the Gungans, Jar Jar Binks still blights their name with his existence. However, counteracting him is a cool Gungan sencondary character in Star Wars: Last Shot , so I guess I wouldn't complain if it came to pass.

TBH, Giving Aquatic Troops the Unhindered Keyword would somewhat allow them to cross terrain designated as Water.

Also, if Gungans did come to Legion, JarJar would likely be a Unique heavy weapon upgrade for them, giving them Uncanny Luck probably.

Good idea for the Aquatic troops, I didn't think of that. The fact that you were able to make Jar Jar a viable upgrade/character is both frightening and cool at the same time.

I feel like you're all focusing on what I didn't say instead of who truly matters...

Kit Fisto counts as an Aquatic unit and, by this logic, would have Unhindered built in.

I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I just see the word "Gungan" and try to stem the flow of Jar Jar Binksness that comes with it. Truth be told, I think Fisto ranks with Mace Windu and Plo Koon in terms of coolness. I would love to see him as a commander and/or operative.

And Aayla, Luminara, Bariss and "Snips".

Yes! You are so right! Ahsoka especially, because she could be part of both the Rebellion and the Republic.

Misspelled a word

So with destroyer droids getting shields, this opens the door and makes me think republic clone commandos are inevitable. Now that there is a unit shield mechanic, it would be crazy not to include them!

True, and since they've appeared in Clone Wars , they're technically canon, so the whole "canon only" mentality isn't an issue.

I did concede that the commandos being snipers is thematic, I also mentioned why I think they are better suited for another role.

As to the “pins”, I'm assuming you are talking about supression? If so, I'll reiterate, we don't know if droidekas even take supression. Assuming a sniper droideka was build similar, they might not have a morale value. Much like a human operating an at-rt can never panic, droidekas, in any form, may not be using that mechanic.

Okay, you have a valid point about how we don't know whether the droideka will have supression or not. I also see why you would have commando droids taking a more aggressive course in gameplay. I just like the idea of a two-droid sniper team holding up an crucial advance, personally.

But commando droids could definitely take out a base on their own, so your idea for them isn't wrong in any way.

So, Infiltrate+Scout then?

No reason why you couldn't have both as differing sniper units. The Sniper droideka was said to be highly accurate, lower rate of fire but much more power behind its sniper blaster. Now I have not got into legion yet ( i will be with clones now) but there must be mechanics to represent this. Or ways for it to gain bonuses and negative attributes/effects. Where the commando sniper team could provide higher rate of fire, but not as powerful/effective shots.

I dunno, just throwing ideas out there. I like the idea of having both. Even if they are stupid clankers

I think this would actually work very well. After all, the commando snipers didn't kill Rex even though they got a direct hit on him.

This would definitely work for them. Its their first appearance in a nutshell.

Who do you think will be the most expensive Jedi, Yoda, Mace Windu or Anakin?

Yoda.

He's basically the leader of the Jedi anyway.

Plus, he's small, so he's got a natural advantage in finding cover before any keywords are added.

Judge me by my size, do you?

I think it will be Anakin. He's the Chosen One, and is usually depicted as an extremely powerful Jedi. And let's not forget that his future self, Darth Vader, is 200 points. The only one stronger is the Emperor.

It’s basically a given that Anakin will be up next since he is by far the most iconic of the clone wars heroes
