Dear FFG, release... the huge ship rules!

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/3/26/an-unfortunate-delay/

As mentioned in the article, the delays are due to the model. So the rules are ready yes? Please give us a full rules preview that will last us to Q3! There are still several unrevealed things such as the huge ship ramming rules and how certain commanders/upgrades apply to huge ships. Would like a full rundown so we can listbuild more accurately in anticipation of it! :D

I second this motion.

I doubt they will - otherwise people who would have bought it may play it and start thinking the fun isn’t worth the price...

FFG likes to publish related articles in the weeks leading up to a release. They get to do previews and promotion at the same time that way. Releasing articles now when they just moved the release date further down the road is against their norm.

I suspect this is also why the X-Wing point values don't go live until the official street date for the sets. Back in 1.0, as point values were spoiled with previews, people on Vassal would "solve" the future meta weeks if not months before stuff actually released, and people would inform their pre-order decisions based on what the "new" hotness was. So if ships turned out to be duds, especially spammed, very few people would purchase a list-worth of the stuff.

What are the Questions?

only one I really want to know it a confirmation that it move from the rear. But after the video I did moving it from the front I think that is all the confirmation I need. Ramming, I'm just going to play it as it is now one face down. if a rule come out saying face up well thats not anything that will change how I play now. All the cards have the text we need. like Motti clearly says small medium large. is there something I'm missing?

Squadron placement when the SSD overlaps squadrons. As of normal rules it is quite powerful for the opponent to place their squadrons anywhere around the huge SSD base when they are overlapped

Well this is both a huge and expensive purchase so the runway for it also takes longer. Might be nice if they release the preview in Q2 then the on the boat announcement in Q3 to keep the general hype

Agree that's why we have a rule front plastic overlaps, place touching front plastic. if that gets reversed then at least we are playing with tougher rules till it does

Thanks for hearing us ffg!

Have put all the huge ship rules revealed together for easy reference. Thanks to those on the other thread that helped! 👍

List of revealed huge rules:

-Huge ships are not large ships, upgrades that specify large ship won't work on them
-You will get half points, including upgrades, if you get halfway through the health of the SSD
-Moff JJ works on SSD as written, Motti has no effect
-As a huge ship, you are allowed to extend out from deployment zone, but need to be touching back edge of table edge if you extend out. Squadrons that deploy from you cannot deploy further from distance 5 from table edge
-SSD movement is from the front of the rear base, and collisions work as with any other ships(overlapped squadrons' placements are the same as well)

-You're not allowed to overlap the base with the maneuver tool when moving, as per normal rules. This also means no drifting maneuvers with the SSD

-Obstacles have normal effects on huge ships
-Huge ships cannot install Minister Tua, or any otherupgrade that adds upgrade slots
-Enhanced Armament doesn't affect auxiliary arcs
-Huge ships can only take one modification, same as everything else

Point me out if there is anything I missed! :)

Squadron overlapping works the same... Now that's a very interesting concept to think about.... Repositioning my bombers by overlapping them... True, the opponent may place the squads, but could I use it to my advantage by not giving him any good choices...? 🤔

Can you place the man tool under the base?

I don't think you can, as it would be extremely wonky.

So no placing tool of left, then go right.

Comments?

That's right. In the video they explicitly say that you can't drift with the SSD. You're not allowed to place the maneuver tool overlapping the base.

Thanks.

I was are the gym. Missed the start, and only got to watch in between sets.

Thanks, I'll drop that in above 👍

If Motti doesn't work, presumably Konstantine doesn't work either.

That's right, too. All wordings at upgrade cards according to "large" don't include "huge".

I think that's dumb! If you have to deploy touching your edge you can't play Blockade Run and there is no logic you could apply to Fleet Ambush! It would have been better for deployment of ship and squadrons you only look at the rear plastic base (same as for movements later in the game).

That's the second thing I don't really get. You will have a hard time playing against General Dodonna! And the effect will be that every SSD-player tries to sit on the station. You can easily stay there for 4 rounds or more.

Blargh! Even worse!

I was a really 100% fan boy until Sector Fleet rules. And after this rulings I'm down to 60% ... 😖

Only Lando makes me going up to 70% again! Thank you very much, Nathan Coda!

In the case of Blockade Run, the SSD should easily fit within the deployment zone. In this instance it does not need to touch the player’s edge.

Question: I have been re-watching the video and agree that at half damage you receive half of the base cost of the SSD. Where do they state you also would gain points equal to the upgrades attached?

I likely missed it or this is discussed toward the end of the video.

It's a speed 2 ship. You will have a hard time to be within the opponents at round 6. We played it once and I hardly received to be within it only because I had deployed with the nose in the asteroid field.

And could you explain how to deploy the SSD in an Ambush Zone?

or any other upgrade that adds upgrade slots

Can’t wait for offensive retrofit slot to be good... I hope they allow you to either trade upgrade slots or add slots... I realllly want an ion slot on the cymoon.

I’m guessing that either the “Huge ship” rules will cover Fleet Ambush, or an FAQ will come out specific to the SSD.

As to Blockade Run, the SSD should be able to be deployed at the edge of the deployment zone closest to the opponent. Having said that, at speed 2 over 6 turns, I don’t believe it will move far enough to be “within” the opponent’s deployment zone. As it only impacts second player, I suspect this won’t be a typical objective choice for fleets with the SSD.

If Vics can make it in 6, then this monster can

'cept it has to go further, since its Base is Longer... And that Vic *barely* makes it in 6...

Gotta get the WHOLE base in.

At least Ozzel (Officer) will help with that...

... It just seems a lot of effort for 20 points ;)
