Han Solo rebel and target lock

Because the horse may not be dead....

If Han spends a target lock to reroll 2 of 3 dice and then choses to use his ability does he modify all 3 dice or just the two he rerolled?

Example: Han attacks range 2 with target lock, gets hit/blank/blank. Spends target lock, rerolls 2 blank, gets 2 focus. Han roll 2 focus or Han roll hit/focus/focus?

Han's reroll isn't able to be used after spending a Lock, and he has to reroll all dice.

So in your example if you roll hit/blank/blank (and are in r1 of an obstacle), you can use Han to reroll all 3 dice, if you get hit/hit/blank you may then spend the Lock to reroll the blank.

Given the latest ruling by FFG,

" A: Han Solo's ability is treated as a dice modification effect that is not a reroll. Because it is a dice modification effect, when attacking or defending, it triggers during the Modify Dice step. Note, however, that it can also affect other die rolls, such as the roll to determine if a ship suffers damage from overlapping or moving through an asteroid. "

I think Han would have to reroll all three dice. I can't see any reason you couldn't use Han after spending a target lock since FFG decided his ability is during the modify dice step instead of after rolling dice. If his ability shares the same timing as any other dice mod then there is no reason I can see that you wouldn't be able to use his ability after other dice mods, but he is forced to re-roll all of the dice he can re-roll and since there is nothing preventing a dice modification on the hit result he would be forced to reroll that along with the 2 focus results.

After reading through the rules reference entry again, I have come to the same conclusion as some of the posts below. If you use Han's ability after spending a lock you would reroll only the dice that have not previously been re-rolled. So in essence, a die that has been Han'ed can still be re-rolled, but a die that has been re-rolled cannot be Han'ed.

The reason you can't use Han after using a Lock is because of Han's wording:

"After you roll dice..."

You only 'roll' dice the first time you roll them, after using a lock you have rerolled dice, hence why you have to do it in that order.

I think there are two questions at issue.

One is whether Han can be triggered by the use of a target lock. WHich is no, he can't, a reroll is not a roll.

The other is whether you can choose the order of your TL and Han, and that one is yes - if you reroll using your Lock first, those dice then become ineligible to be Hanned - he must reroll all eligible dice, which is all dice that have not previously been rerolled.

Probably.

So, "after you roll dice.." and "...you may reroll all of your dice..." is specifically referring to the initial roll dice (and quantity of dice) step in an engagement and other roll dice prompts from cards etc., and not other reroll effects that may reduce the number of dice rolled initially. Correct?

I ask because I get rule lawyered by a few folks in my meta and I'm super new. I appreciate the input!

This is answered in the RRG, pg 23; he rerolls all dice that have not already been rerolled.

ROLLING AND REROLLING DICE

Q: If a card such as Han Solo [YT-1300, Scoundrel for Hire] or Saturation Salvo instructs a player to reroll “all dice” or a specific number of dice but there are not enough eligible dice, what happens?

A: The player rerolls as many eligible dice as possible. In the case of Han Solo [Scoundrel for Hire] and other effects that reroll “all dice,” this means that if 1 or more dice are for any reason ineligible to be rerolled or modified, Han Solo still rerolls the available dice that are eligible.

EDIT to answer your other question: rolls are not the same thing as rerolls. Han's ability isn't triggered when dice are rerolled, only when they are rolled.

Thanks all for the input! That helps a bunch!!
