Season of Giving Variant: Mistakes?

By MikeEvans, in X-Wing

So my X-Wing group is going to be doing a "Season of Giving" style tourney this weekend, and I was looking at the list of allowable upgrades. It's highly restrictive, but some things don't make sense. For one, if every ship gains a red coordinate on their action bar, then why is Squad Leader one of the (very few) options for an Elite slot?

Also, the configs for U-Wings and X-Wings are not available. I haven't checked for other ships, but is this a mistake?

Squad Leader is at best useless and at worst actually hindering, since it limits your coordinate options regardless of where the coordinate action comes from. They probably added the red coordinate to the format late in development and forgot to remove Squad Leader. Useless, but its existence does no harm.

The configurations are a tougher nut to crack. It's possible they were left out intentionally, as they make the ships they are on more independently efficient by design. It's more likely that they got clipped as collateral damage because they are upgrades that do not intrinsically support cooperative ship actions. However, that metric is a subjective one, which means someone made the conscious choice not to include them (you can't easily write an algorithm to navigate upgrade cards at all, let alone separate them into cards that are cooperative in nature). So unless we hear different, no configs (sad gunboats).

Of course, the caveat is that your x-wing group can say "screw that, configs in"

We looked at that format... hard to tell if the exclusions were mistakes because there isn't exactly notes around. TO is allowed to make a few notable exceptions if they don't like it, of course, provided they communicate it to everybody.

We probably will not be running Season of Giving.
