What do you do with them? Energy shell charges? Do you BR off the rock to get clean shots??
So, how do grappling struts work, and can they be good?
You ignore rocks at range 0, so you can take perfectly clean shots while parked, and maybe get some cover while you’re at it.
I prefer to put all my points into bodies and charges and run all gas clouds.
But, do they ignore the rock when shooting you-grappling?
Also what's the new obstacles and stuff do?

No they don't.
Cost your action on move through or overlap, and give a defensive benefit (change a die to an evade) when shot through.

do you roll an extra die also?

Okay, so take energy shells, grappling struts.
Pick rocks. Does it work for debris too?
Camp the rock before they're in range, and then shoot off of it while you get obstructions
This will answer a lot of these questions:

Correct and they work on debris as well but not gas clouds
Ok....so read the other thread. If you are on the asteroid and shoot, the enemy doesn't get an extra green die. If they shoot at you, you do (if there is an asteroid in the way).
I don't see how you lose an action, though. Do you? On every turn you are on it or just when moving? I wouldn't think you would.

I do want to say that I used some on my ships and they didn't get used at all. That was all because I used them as an insurance policy in case I did land on them.
If I actually thought about using them, I think they could be used to great effect. Place them where you expect to start shooting and you can land on them on that turn. Then you don't have to move and can stay there shooting.

You don't lose an action if you roll over the rock, you flip the card before you sufer the effects, and with it flipped, you ignore the effects. From there on you skip your manoeuvre entirely, so you still get your action.
And yeah, you basically have to plan your setup with rocks to sit on in mind, if you're planning to do it at all.

That was mentioned in reference to Gas Clouds, but only applies if the Vulture flies through them with their struts closed.

Or roll off of after you maneuver on to them.

Uuuh are you saying if the Vulture has open struts (And this is either on a rock or barrel rolled off of one last turn) it still gets its action somehow when going through a gas cloud?
The game spent all of first edition and all of second edition, up until now, teaching me that landing on asteroids or debris was a bad thing. It's taking a lot of habit-breaking to get the best use out of Grappling Struts, and for the first couple games I've played they've been a waste of 3 points per vulture droid.
But, I think the struts will become much more useful as people start learning how to be tricky with their asteroid or debris placement to plan on landing on those spots to throw off their opponent.

Closed side triggers on overlap of asteroids or debris. Open side states in the first line "You ignore obstacles at range 0 and while you move through them." Gas clouds are obstacles, so while the struts are open they have no negative effects on the Vulture if it either is at range 0 or moving through them. I'm not sure of the wording on Gas Clouds (don't have either the SoS or GotR expac yet and the RR wasn't updated last I checked) but depending on the triggers for the action loss Vultures may be able to perform an Action if they started with their struts open in the turn they interacted with the Gas Cloud.
As a reference:

so... yeah. If you barrel roll off a rock with your struts open, they will remain open until you execute a maneuver.
If your next maneuver flies through a gas cloud, you will still have the text "ignore obstacles at range 0 and while you move through them," so the gas cloud will not make you skip your action.
Then you will close your struts (after the maneuver) and take your action.
Weird.
Ah yeah, "while moving through them," not just while at range 0. Nice!
EDIT: For @Hiemfire
"Gas Clouds are new obstacles, and players may select them instead of asteroids or debris clouds.
When a ship moves through or overlaps a gas cloud, it skips its perform action step.
When a gas cloud obstructs an attack, the defender rolls 1 additional defense die, and may change up to 1 blank result to an [evade] result."
So if you
land on it
, I'm not so sure, but if you just fly through it, your struts should still be open and you should be able to still take your action.

So "Range 0 of" is not used, okay. Right now "overlaps" is triggered by either landing on an object or having an object placed under the ship (per the Proximity Mine example in the Official Rulings), the check for the first (landing on) has already happened when the Struts are triggered to close "After you execute a maneuver,". Vultures get their action after either moving through or landing on a Gas Cloud
if
they started their activation with their Struts open.
