What is the best Republic Gunline?

So can anybody explain to me what good Torrents are? As a chassis they're god awful, but what makes them good?

The Republic has not fillers in the 30s range. We have to use torrents or end up with very few ships. Maybe the arrive of the N1 changes the situation

Sinker is a good add too.

Pretty much this. They are very much like a heavy Z-95 but to a faction that doesn't have any ships with non-unique pilots starting in the 20-25 price range this would be a welcomed edition. Resistance (and hyper rebels<_<) wouldn't mind a torrent just to add in 2 more red dice and 5 more hit points.

Dedicated. Basically.

I feel like they're good at being shot at. In my experience, they seem like they take 3-ish attacks to die, and if your opponent does that, they haven't put three shots into a Jedi or ARC.

The dial isn't good (but the fact that their 4-straight is white is pretty handy), but it doesn't *need* to be good. Grab two in some list with lots of other stuff, mosey towards your opponent. Their 2-red dice aren't great, but uncontested and ignored they can get some chip damage in.

I find myself just taking the evade action as I close in. And if one goes down...no hard feelings.

Their slightly faster B wing dial really makes them hard to swoop in so pointing them where I think the action will happen is super important.

I don't think the N1 will fix that. FFG does like their theming and that'd go straight against it. Noted either way, though.

Cluster Missiles against swarms. Maybe not "good" but the V-19 is how The Republic can put missiles on the table. I think though it is a matter of getting the battle order sorted out. The Clones need help from their brothers and Jedi. You can't look at the torrent or arc or delta all on its own but how it fits with the rest of your list and then follow that plan and that plan's contingency plans. Sure Clones can think creatively but they really do better with orders. Your generic torrents want to barrel roll and evade then get a lock from a brother or co-ordinate.

I don't think we've all quite sorted out the best way to leverage the action economy synergies of the Clones. We have to learn to resist the urge to spend that lock the sync console ARC took when he blanked his attack. His brothers need it for their missiles. Clones are a disciplined army and need to be flown with discipline. "They're doing their jobs so we can do ours."

That is quite interesting... I'm curious to see how we learn to fly Republic. But I suspect the V-19's lifespan is limited if we get Headhunters.

Yeah, I could see a use for these things in my favorite faction.

Noted. I wonder how Dedicated Zs will do.

Meat for the grinder, then? And meat you shouldn't ignore at that. Okay, that's intriguing.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Basically: Don't invest heavily in them, then?

Because Republic is looking somewhat tempting as a side-faction to my Resistance... Nooooooot gonna' lie.

I liked a lot the lists and feedback in this topic:

totally in love with:
Sinker with codi
Arc 104
4xgold torrents

Firstly, thanks for the mention. I’m yet to update that thread, will do tomorrow.

Just finished the tournament a couple hours ago and went 1st place, undefeated. It was only a small “casual” Hyperspace tournament with 14 players but was a great test. A lot of the tournament goers were playing serious lists.

The Sinker (w/ Cody), x4 GST, 104th ARC list is no joke. It just tanks hits like no bodies business. I’ll be continuing to play this list for some time to come.

But, the Torrents last longer than most Tie Academy Pilots for only 2 pts more. The dial isn't Tie quality but that's a tradeoff. I'd be willing to pay 10 pts. more on a Gold Squadron Trooper to get a tie fighter dial but that isn't happening...
